A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Job Summary Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow the daily cleaning schedule for classrooms, offices, library and cafeteria Assist in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desk, furniture and other equipment Replace light bulbs as necessary Make repairs or adjustments in classroom furniture Maintain equipment used in the course of work Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to immediate supervisor Perform services in individual classrooms as directed by supervisor Do maintenance repairs Responsible for checking operation of the heating and air condition system and reporting to supervisor when system needs additional repairs Replace broken windows or arrange to have repairs done Care for and keep up grounds Assist in receiving and shelving classroom and cafeteria supplies Paint buildings when needed Conduct weekly inspection of playground equipment and make repairs Empty outside trash cans as often as necessary Daily lock doors, close windows, lock playground gates and see that the school is secure before leaving Keep supply room stocked and supplies put away Stamp all textbooks, support materials and instructional materials with school identification stamp Perform other related duties as required Inventory of all school assets and equipment Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all employees
