A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Cleans and maintains on a daily basis all halls, offices, shops, classrooms, restrooms, conference rooms, labs, gym areas, locker rooms, elevators which includes sweeping, dusting, dust-mopping, wet-mopping, spot-mopping, reconditioning of floors and spot washing and cleaning of walls, doors, and partitions. Performs minor repair work on furniture, fixtures, floors, plumbing, etc. Assists skilled trades employees by performing tasks including, but not limited to, preparation of job site, changing belts, filters, lights, and ceiling tiles. Completes light plumbing work to include, but not limited to, opening clogged drains, repairing leaky fixtures, as well as cleanup of water leaks and spills. Cleans and maintains all floors and floor coverings which includes regular duties such as vacuuming, shampooing, stripping, sealing and waxing. Cleans all entrances, entrances walks, steps and concourses Spot cleans and cleans all exterior and interior glass surfaces of all assigned buildings; cleans ceiling lights and blinds. Empties and cleans all waste cans, trashcans, recycle bins, water fountains and doormats. Assists Maintenance Staff in painting, replacement, remodeling, construction projects, and other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Mechanic. Valid Class E Florida Driver's License Required
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE
Various work schedules will be hired out of this posting. Workdays and shift times may vary in response to customer needs for special event coverage and/or departmental needs. Some overtime may be required. Total hours per week is 40. Management retains the right and discretion to modify schedules, building assignments, shifts and/or days for operational purposes. Position is considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.
EXPECTED SALARY
$16.00 Hourly based on experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma (or equivalent) and zero two (2) years of experience in the field or in a related area; or completion of the ninth grade and three years of experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & TRAINING High school diploma and two (2) years of commercial custodial experience. Mechanical aptitude and abilities.
