Summary:
The Night Supervisor is responsible for overseeing evening custodial and maintenance operations across all District 401 buildings. This position ensures facilities are clean, safe, secure, and ready for the next school day while supervising custodial staff and coordinating nightly operations. This role combines hands-on custodial work with leadership responsibilities , including staff supervision, inspections, and coordination with the Head Custodian & Director of Building & Grounds.
Qualifications:
Certification/License High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Valid Driver's License Job Responsibilities:
Supervision & Leadership Supervise and direct night custodial staff across assigned buildings Trains new custodians on procedures, safety, and equipment use Monitor staff performance and provide feedback to the Head Custodian Building Operations & Security Ensure the building is secured at the end of the shift Conduct walkthrough inspections of classrooms, hallways, and common areas Act as the primary after-hours contact for building concerns Custodial & Maintenance Oversight Ensure completion of cleaning tasks such as: Classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, and offices Floor care (sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing) Trash removal and recycling Assist with hands-on custodial work as needed & Other duties as assigned Oversee setup/teardown for events, meetings, and activities & Other duties as assigned Monitor minor maintenance tasks (light bulbs, minor repairs, etc.) & reports them to the Head Custodian. Safety & Compliance Ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment Address hazards (snow removal, spills, unsafe conditions) promptly Inventory & Coordination Monitor custodial supplies and equipment levels Communicate with administrators, principals, and maintenance teams Seasonal / Additional Duties Assist with summer deep cleaning Support snow removal and exterior maintenance Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong leadership and team management skills Knowledge of custodial methods, equipment, and floor care Ability to inspect work and maintain high standards Good communication and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently during evening hours Equipment Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools. Safety Requirements Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties. Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks. Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets. Travel Requirements Travel within and outside of the district Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
Experience with vigorous labor:
lifting between 30 and 50 lbs, squatting, and moving heavy items.
