A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

CUSTODIAN - 2ND SHIFT BURGESSELEMENTARY SCHOOL
12 Month PositionAnticipated Start Date:
ImmediatelyREPORTS TO
PrincipalESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Sweeps, mops, waxes, dusts, change light bulbs
- Washes windows, walls, floors, and furnishings
- Picks up paper and other debris, empties and cleans trash receptacles
- Rearranges and moves furnishings, transports, and delivers educational supplies
- Operates vacuums, floor machines, buffers, and carpet cleaning equipment in addition to any new equipment introduced to the facility
- Maintains bathroom facilities
ABILITY TO
- Work outdoors in all seasons, shovel snow, fill and push salt spreader (up to 75 lbs)
- Operates common and specialized cleaning equipment and tools
- Understand and carries out both written and oral instructions
- Perform heavy physical labor to include lifting, pulling, pushing, and working off ladders
- Use hand and small power tools to accomplish minor repairs and adjustments
- Maintain work schedules in the performance of cleaning tasks
- Adhere to safety standards and safe practices especially in the handling and use of chemicals and bloodborne pathogens
- Maintain cooperative and productive working relationships through the use of courtesy and tact when dealing with others
- Retain a valid license to operate any school equipment
- Be certifiable in federal and state-mandated safety laws if required
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
- evidence of ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required
- Minimum of high school diploma, or equivalent
- Six months' experience in the custodial field and the ability to demonstrate knowledge of custodial procedures, equipment, and cleaning products preferred
- Approved CORI and Fingerprinting results
