Full Job Description Primary Purpose:
Under Supervision, the custodian is responsible for keeping assigned building(s) and/or area(s) clean, safe, functional, and secure in accordance with prescribed codes and established district policies and standards. Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. He/she is required to perform duties within the expectations of all district requirements and board of education policies. He/she must understand proper procedures, handbook rules, and maintain confidentiality with regard to students and staff. He/she must also be available for duties on some Saturdays, Sundays, and evenings as assigned or needed. 2. Moreover, the individual must be adaptable to working around children and possess skills for maintaining school buildings in a manner acceptable to the general health and safety standards of school buildings. 3. Perform specific cleaning and housekeeping duties as per cleaning schedule and district standards, such as; vacuuming/dust mopping, wet mopping floors, dusting, refill dispensers (toilet tissue, soap and towel), Empty trash cans, pencil sharpeners, steam/shampoo carpets, cleaning/disinfecting restrooms, shower/locker rooms, offices, classrooms, cleaning glass and other general housekeeping and cleaning requirements as needed. 4. Deep floor auto-scrub, strip/wax floors, power wash any area where needed, as well as floor mats (summer clean or student holidays. 5. Maintain clean and in good order custodial room closets and custodial equipment. 6. Arm/disarm alarms; Unlock/Lock doors as required. Responsible for security of assigned area. Ensure that all doors of assigned area are secured when empty and before leaving. 7. Responsible for keys assigned and may be required to pay for replacement if lost. Set Up/Take Down rooms for events. 8. Assist in training new personnel. 9. Move furniture, boxes, etc. upon request. May replace light bulbs as required. 10. Report all unsafe working conditions. Report all broken equipment. Report all accidents to Lead Person no matter how small. 11. Required to work in any district facility, and any area of the building assigned. On occasions will be required to work with a crew to accomplish certain tasks. This usually occurs on student holidays, summer cleaning or when other custodians are out. 12. Follow and implement all district policies and safety procedures. 13. Regular and reliable prompt in person attendance is required. 14. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Custodial Supervisor or his/her designee.
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Occasionally (with help) the employee will lift or move up to 50 pounds, including bags of trash and furniture. The employee will sometimes push or pull items such as tables, bleachers, custodial machines, etc. Ability to stay on feet all day, walking and standing. Ability to reach with hands and arms, reach above the head, and reach forward. Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, squat, bend, and twist at the neck and trunk. Ability to climb and work from a ladder to heights of six-seven feet. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works indoors/outdoors including both hot and cold weather. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. May occasionally work withy toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers and sprays.
Pay:
$11.00 - $17.00 per hour
