Job Description

Summary The Senior Center Call-In is an as-needed, on-call position responsible for providing relief support across all functional areas of the Senior Services Program. This position is called in to work on an as-needed basis to fill staffing gaps and ensure the continued operation of program services. Duties may include any combination of custodial, kitchen support, meal delivery, transportation, and administrative functions depending on program needs at the time of assignment. Work is performed under the direction of the Cook and/or Senior Services Director and in accordance with applicable ADSD, USDA, health department, and NDOT regulations. This position carries no guarantee of hours.
Custodial Duties:
Sweep, vacuum, and mop all floors throughout the facility; Dust furniture surfaces and window sills; Wash windows, doors, and other soiled surfaces; Clean and sanitize all restrooms and restock necessary supplies; Empty trash receptacles throughout the facility; Raise and lower flags as appropriate for weather conditions; Maintain outdoor grounds, parking lot, and sidewalk areas free of weeds and debris; and Water outdoor plants and trees as necessary. Meal Prep Duties:
Assist the Food Service Manager/Cook with daily preparation and service of meals to clients in a congregate setting; Wash and sanitize appliances, equipment, pots, pans, dinnerware, glassware, utensils, and other kitchen items; return all clean items to proper storage locations; Clean and sanitize kitchen and dining room areas, including tables, chairs, counters, beverage service equipment, floors, and walls; and Assist with unpacking and stocking food supplies; operate kitchen equipment and appliances safely and effectively. Driver Duties:
Assist in preparing and packaging meals for delivery to homebound clients; Load vehicle with meals and other food and beverage items; Deliver meals to homebound clients following a fixed route; and Coordinate with Program staff to ensure client meal delivery schedules are accurate; notify staff of any changes based on client interactions.
Transportation Driver Duties:
Provide safe and dependable transportation to eligible clients within established routes and priorities; Assist frail and disabled participants with boarding, safety belt fastening, and disembarking; Operate vehicle wheelchair lift safely and correctly; and Follow all applicable safety and emergency procedures.
Administrative Support Duties:
Answer and direct incoming phone calls; record and forward messages to appropriate staff; Maintain sign-in sheets, enter services data into SAMS or other agency databases; Assist with preparation of program reports, correspondence, and other administrative tasks as directed; and Act as a point of contact for clients and the general public in the absence of regular staff.
General Duties:
Be familiar with and comply with ADSD Service Specifications and Operations Manual (PINS), USDA food preparation and handling guidelines, applicable Department of Health sanitation regulations, and NDOT transportation specifications and requirements; Assist other staff with lifting and moving heavy or awkward items; and Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Knowledge of:
Basic custodial methods, practices, and cleaning products; Food safety, sanitation, and hygiene practices in a kitchen or food service setting; Safe operation of a motor vehicle, including vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts; Basic office procedures and computer operation; Applicable ADSD, USDA, health department, and NDOT regulations as they relate to this position; and Sociological and psychological needs of the elderly.
Skills to:
Perform custodial and kitchen tasks in a thorough and timely manner; Safely operate program vehicles on established delivery and transportation routes; Provide courteous and professional administrative support; and Follow written and oral directions accurately and adapt quickly to varying assignments.
Ability to:
Work efficiently and independently across multiple functional areas with minimal supervision; Perform physical duties including lifting, carrying, standing, and walking for extended periods; Respond on short notice and report to work as called in by the Director or designee; Interact respectfully and courteously with elderly clients, program staff, and the general public; and Maintain punctuality and reliability when called to work. Experience and Training Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is: Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must be physically capable of performing all assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner, including lifting and carrying requirements, and able to stand and walk for extended periods. Experience in custodial, food service, driving, or administrative roles preferred. Familiarity with the needs of elderly populations preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
The physical and mental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Strength and stamina to perform sustained physical activity including bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying, and standing or walking for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Dexterity and coordination to operate custodial equipment, kitchen appliances, office equipment, and motor vehicles. Ability to operate a vehicle wheelchair lift safely. Vision and hearing sufficient to operate a vehicle safely and communicate with clients and staff. Ability to work in environments with exposure to cleaning chemicals, food odors, dust, and outdoor weather conditions. Cognitive ability to follow written and oral instructions, adapt to varying daily assignments, and respond to client and safety situations appropriately. Ability to interact professionally with clients, supervisors, coworkers, and the public. Reliability and availability to respond to on-call work requests on short notice. Working Conditions:
Work is performed under the following conditions: Position functions both indoors and outdoors depending on the duties assigned on a given day. Indoor work may include custodial duties, kitchen and food service support, and administrative tasks. Outdoor work may include grounds maintenance, vehicle loading, and meal delivery or transportation routes. Work involves potential exposure to cleaning chemicals, food preparation environments, outdoor weather conditions, and vehicle operation. This is an as-needed, call-in position with no guaranteed hours. Schedule is determined by program staffing needs and the employee must be available to report to work on short notice.
