Job Summary Join our dedicated team as a Full-Time Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) specializing in school bus rides, where your expertise will ensure the safety, health, and well-being of students during transportation. This vital role combines clinical nursing skills with a passion for working with children and adolescents, providing essential health assessments, emergency response, and health management on school transportation routes. Your proactive approach and compassionate care will help create a secure environment for students with diverse health needs, including those requiring specialized medical attention. Duties Conduct health assessments and monitor vital signs of students before and during bus rides to identify any immediate health concerns. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including injections, IV infusions, and medication management tailored to individual student needs. Respond swiftly to medical emergencies on the bus, utilizing first aid skills, airway management, and CPR to stabilize students until further care can be provided. Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality policies. Collaborate closely with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to develop individualized health plans for students with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, or allergies. Educate students on health practices, medication administration, and safety protocols to promote independence and well-being during transportation. Ensure all medical equipment used on buses is sterile, functional, and properly maintained according to infection control standards. Qualifications Valid Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in good standing. Prior experience working with pediatric or adolescent populations preferred; experience with special needs or developmental disabilities is a plus. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth for accurate documentation. Strong knowledge of first aid procedures, CPR certification, and basic life support (BLS). Familiarity with medication administration including injections, IV infusions, and catheter care. Ability to assess patient condition quickly through vital signs monitoring and physical examinations. Excellent communication skills for effective caregiver interaction and collaboration with school personnel.
