General Statement:

The Supervisor of Camp Zoo & Family Programs is an ambassador and educator for the ACNC/Phoenix Zoo. The Supervisor is responsible for modeling, creating and maintaining a team culture that demonstrates the ACNC/Phoenix Zoo's Core Values. This position hires, trains and supervises the full-time Camp Programs Assistant and Camp Programs Coordinator, as well as the part-time seasonal Camp Zoo instructor team (day camp). They are accountable for efficient and effective logistical operations of Camp Zoo and Family Programs. They oversee the creation of curriculum and schedules for age-appropriate educational programs about the natural world for campers ages 5-15, early childhood ages 0-5 and other special events for all ages. The Supervisor of Camp Zoo & Family Programs partners with the Supervisor of Night Camps to support all camp programming and develop an instructor team culture that represents the Core Values of the Phoenix Zoo. They are cross-trained in Night Camp Program responsibilities, with an emphasis on supporting Night Camp operations during busy season (Feb-Apr). This position requires a flexible and varied schedule that includes: Daytime shifts during the Summer Camp Zoo season (June-July) and Seasonal programming (school holidays). Semi-regular weekend availability to support Family programming. Semi-regular evening availability to support Night Camp programming. All mandatory meetings and training.

Essential Duties:

Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance. Help create and maintain a team culture that reflects the ACNC/Zoo Core Values (accountability, collaboration, fun, initiative, and respect), serving as a role model and supporting others in developing and demonstrating these values. Supervise Family Programs and Camp Zoo Instructor staff and volunteers, which includes hiring, schedule management and daily oversight, in addition to providing training, coaching and professional development. Consistently observe programs to provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback which will inform annual evaluations for all regular team members. Ensure program logistics are coordinated with internal and external partners. Monitor and maintain accurate program records, budget, protocols and information that guides operations by the camp team, program guests and other Zoo departments in relation to these programs. Oversee all aspects of Family and Camp Zoo program development to ensure high-quality experiences and materials, inquiry-based curricula and alignment with relevant program standards. Facilitate Family and Camp programs and support other ACNC education programs and special events as needed. Assess, evaluate, and work towards strengthening camp staff and program offerings. Assist with marketing strategies, which may include conducting research, staffing promotional booths and special events, and conducting formal presentations for teachers and school administrators. Assist in supervising the day-to-day operations of Night Camp programs and special ACNC/Zoo and education events when the Supervisor of Night Camps is not present. This support will be regularly expected (approximately one day per week) during busy season. Serve on the Education Leadership Team to help forward the department's strategic initiatives, ensure collaboration and consistency across the department and mentor department staff. Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in education, biology/environmental science, environmental education or related field. Minimum 1 year paid experience facilitating informal or formal group educational experiences. Minimum 1 year experience supervising/managing teams delivering informal group experiences preferred. Able to successfully perform both independently and in a team environment. Friendly, responsible, and enthusiastic. Maintains a positive and respectful attitude with guests and teammates. Demonstrated leadership and guest service experience in a fast-paced environment. Problem solving experience and the ability to make decisions and communicate in a calm, professional manner during a high-stress situation. Can effectively and respectfully communicate with a diverse audience and teammates (including all age levels, cultures, neurodiversity, and level of abilities). Able to give and receive constructive feedback with a growth mindset and solution-oriented approach. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization skills, and detail-oriented work style. Bi-lingual English-Spanish preferred. Experience presenting to a range of audience sizes and ages, including early childhood through adult. Experience working with children with special needs preferred. Knowledge of child development and program specific academic, benchmarking, and/or best practices standards. Experience developing and writing engaging activities and presentations for a variety of ages. Experience in program development/design in a formal or non-formal setting preferred. Experience with Universal Design Principles (UDL) preferred. Able to handle and work with a variety of animals in a safe manner that abides by established animal protocols. Experience working with animals within a professional setting preferred. Availability to work a flexible and varied schedule that includes weekdays, weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; regularly bend, crouch, and kneel; stand and walk for extended periods of time; work in both indoor and outdoor environments and in extreme weather conditions. Possession of valid driver's license. Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug test, DMV check, clear annual TB test, and obtain a Food Handler's License within 1 month of hire.
