Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTIONS I.
Title:
Senior Center Activities Coordinator II.
Function:
Provides support services and assistance to the participants at the senior center. Plan, organizes and direct a program of activities, which provides an opportunity for entertainment, exercise, relaxation, expression, and fulfills basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Position requires regular, sensitive interaction with program participants. The New Orleans Council on Aging expects their employees to promote an atmosphere of teamwork with other employees and agency partners. III.
Accountability:
The Senior Center Activities Coordinator reports to the Senior Center Director. IV.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Director in implementing the daily operations of the center and operate the center in the Director's absence. Ability to meet deadlines, well organized, and able to work under pressure of multiple deadlines; demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload. Acts as a role model within and outside of the agency and adheres to agency policies and procedures. Develop, organize and implement a program of activities to meet the social, emotional, physical and other therapeutic needs of seniors. Coordinate and facilitate daily activities for senior center participants. Assist in organizing field trips and outings. Consistently maintain standards for activity scheduling and documentation established by policies and regulatory. Chaperone all activities and events Complete assessments on new clients while updating information on existing clients, annually. Maintain detailed records of activity programs and participation of older adults along with identifying progress toward established care plan goals. When necessary, make referrals to other agencies on the participants' behalf while providing the necessary follow up. Maintain confidentiality of older adults and center records/information. Serve as a liaison between the senior center participant, program, caregiver and the community. Provide assistance with distributing material aid items such as commodities and donations from other agencies. Collaborate with other community programs such as clubs, groups, organizations, agencies, churches, individuals, etc. to assist senior center participants. Provide assistance with intern students from the following universities: Southern University New Orleans at School of Social Work, Tulane University School of Social Work, LSU Nursing School, Xavier University College of Pharmacy, Dillard University, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Social Work, etc. Contacting caterers, entertainers, presenters, creating invitations, decorates for seasons, holidays and special events. Participate in marketing the senior center for potential senior center participants and events. Assist in completing necessary reports and monthly calendar. Create an ongoing calendar/newsletter of activities, which creatively meets multiple needs and is accessible and appealing to all ages and abilities. Develop and distribute a monthly calendar of events to the older adults. Ensures completion and submission of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Reports are turn in a timely manner. Ability to engage and motivate program participants to increase their self-reliance and work toward resolution of the challenges they face. Ability to work holistically, as part of a team, with staff, volunteers and the community toward the success of the senior center program. Maintain on going access to reliable transportation. Familiar with Standard Precautions, Fire Drill, and Evacuation Plans and offer support. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Senior Center Director or the Executive Director that coincides with the agency's mission. Maintain Carrollton-Hollygrove membership records as it relates to the senior center and develop an approved budget for yearly activities and events. V.
Qualifications:
Current Identification This is a full time, exempt position that will work Monday - Friday. Evenings and weekends may be required based on a business need along with out of town trips. Genuine interest to serve the needs of the frail and disabled older adults. The skills are to work with older adults who have cognitive, physical or sensory disabilities. Strongly prefer two (2) years of experience working with frail older adults or other physically/mentally disabled population. Knowledge of Community Resources. Able to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and Blood Pathogens certifications. Excellent creative and communication skills. Computer literate with knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Excel, Outlook and Internet search skills. College Degree and/or two years of professional experience. Ability to lift 50lbs on occasions.
