A Recreation or Activities Worker leads tours and vacation trips in outdoor or wilderness areas. Leads hiking, rafting, canoeing, climbing or diving activities for a group. Provides specialized knowledge about the history, terrain, ecology or wildlife for the tour. Manages transportation, equipment and provisions and assists with cooking.
We are currently seeking an energetic and caring Activities Assistant to help bring smiles, laughter, and meaningful engagement to our residents.
Primary Purpose:
The Activities Assistant helps plan, organize, and implement programs designed to meet the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of residents in accordance with facility policies, state and federal regulations, and resident preferences. The goal is to enhance residents' quality of life and promote engagement, dignity, and well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Implementation Assist in planning, organizing, and carrying out daily group and individual activities. Encourage resident participation through motivation and personal engagement. Modify activities to meet the needs and functional levels of residents. Provide 1:1 visits for residents unable to participate in group programs. Help transport residents to and from activity areas safely. Documentation & Communication Record attendance and participation in accordance with facility policy. Observe residents during activities and report changes in mood, behavior, or participation to the Activities Director or nursing staff. Assist in maintaining resident activity care plans and progress notes. Resident-Centered Approach Support a culture of respect, inclusion, and meaningful engagement. Adapt programs to reflect resident preferences, backgrounds, and interests. Promote resident autonomy, dignity, and social connection. Event Coordination Help prepare for special events, outings, and holiday celebrations. Set up, decorate, and clean up activity areas. Assist with community events, volunteer coordination, and family involvement. Team Collaboration Work cooperatively with other departments (nursing, dietary, housekeeping, etc.) to support interdisciplinary care. Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as required. Assist volunteers and students as directed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience in long-term care, recreation, or working with older adults preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to motivate and engage individuals with diverse abilities and interests. Must be dependable, organized, and capable of working independently and as part of a team. Must pass required background check and meet all state employment requirements.
