Life's Patina Mercantile & Café is seeking a Part-time Cafe Manager. Position Overview To be successful in this role, the Part-time Cafe Manager must be kind, honest, and hard-working and excited about Life's Patina's mission (see below for the mission statement). The Part-time Cafe Manager will enjoy overseeing the day-to-day operations of the cafe, interacting with customers, managing the team, and maintaining inventory. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of successful management (ideally in the cafe/restaurant industry), exemplary people management and leadership skills, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for customer service. The Part-time Cafe Manager should be flexible to work various shifts throughout the weekly schedule. All team members are expected to support the Mission, Vision, and Values and follow the rules in the Employee Handbook. This position's compensation includes hourly wages and tips.
Management Responsibilities:
Recruit, train, and supervise cafe staff Resolve customer complaints in a professional, timely, and constructive manner Create weekly staffing schedule and, working with other management, find suitable replacements in case of staff absences Suggest and implement procedures to streamline cafe flow and operation Ensure cafe expenses are within budget and identify ways to decrease operational costs Order and receive cafe, and sometimes kitchen, inventory and ensure that correct items have been delivered and inventory levels are maintained Suggest new menu items based on customers' preferences and feedback Share customer review information (both positive and negative) with staff to bolster morale as well as improve and correct skills/behavior where necessary Work with other management and the Lead Barista to come up with ideas for drink specials Support the Lead Barista in the creation of house-made syrups and other inventory necessary for drink menu
Service and Hospitality Responsibilities:
Greet all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develop a rapport with our customers by learning their names, favorite drinks, and food items. Provide superior service to all customers and maintain a respectful and calm attitude in busy and stressful times. Answer customer questions regarding coffee blends, preparation, and product freshness. Sell and serve baked goods, sandwiches, toasts, and miscellaneous food items to customers in a courteous and friendly manner. Report all customer complaints to Manager/Life's Patina leadership. Respond proactively to prevent customer service situations. Answer telephone in a courteous and friendly manner including, but not limited to, giving store greeting, directions to store location, and receiving and filling customer orders. Routinely do dishes and clean the cafe area, floor, windows and grinders, and take out trash. Open and close the cafe and train others on how to do so. Report potential safety hazards to Cafe ownership. Report all employee accidents to Cafe ownership. Requirements, Qualifications & Physical Demands Honesty and kindness over everything. Must be able to work around peak hours, early mornings, weekends, holidays, and occasionally special events/overtime as needed. Maintain positive morale and confidentiality. Experience in retail or food establishments preferred. Excellent verbal and written skills. Register and cash handling experience. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. Frequently required to use hand to finger motions, handle or feel objects, and reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to lift and/or move items up to 30 pounds.
Vision requirements:
close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust and focus. Regularly required to handle food and hot beverages. Preferred Management experience in the hospitality industry (1+ year of relevant experience) Credentials in health and food safety training Coffee knowledge, latte art skills, knowledge of brewing methods and specialty drinks
