Main responsibilities:
Position Purpose Assists the Deli Manager in overseeing all aspects of deli department operations, including customer service, food production, merchandising, inventory management, food safety, labor control, and associate development. Supports department performance goals while ensuring a clean, safe, and customer-focused environment. Assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Deli Manager. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development Assist in supervising, training, coaching, and developing deli associates. Promote a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service. Assist with scheduling and labor planning based on department needs. Monitor associate productivity and provide coaching to improve performance. Serve as acting department manager when the Deli Manager is absent. Customer Service Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure customer concerns are resolved promptly. Promote fresh prepared foods, meal solutions, catering offerings, and seasonal programs. Ensure associates maintain a friendly, professional, and service-oriented approach. Create a welcoming environment that encourages repeat business. Merchandising & Sales Assist with planning and execution of department merchandising and promotional activities. Maintain attractive, fully stocked service cases, displays, and sales areas. Monitor sales trends and assist in implementing plans to drive revenue growth. Ensure proper pricing, signing, and promotional compliance. Food Production & Quality Assist in managing daily food production to ensure freshness, quality, and product availability. Monitor preparation procedures and ensure adherence to company recipes and standards. Verify product presentation meets company expectations. Ensure proper rotation and handling of all products to maximize freshness and reduce waste. Food Safety & Sanitation Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. Ensure proper temperatures, storage practices, and food handling procedures are followed. Conduct routine department inspections and corrective actions as needed. Promote a culture of safety and cleanliness throughout the department. Inventory & Financial Management Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory control, and invoice reconciliation. Monitor shrink and implement practices to reduce product loss. Support achievement of department sales, profit, labor, and productivity goals. Maintain adequate inventory levels while minimizing excess product. Compliance & Operational Excellence Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and operational standards. Assist with department audits and follow-up on corrective actions. Support implementation of company initiatives and process improvements. Maintain accurate records and required documentation.
