Starting at $24.00 per hour, plus tips Core Business Purpose The General Manager is responsible for leading Fizzie Mulligans to deliver exceptional guest experiences while maintaining strong financial performance, operational excellence, and a positive team culture. Our goal is to operate a successful neighborhood bar and grill where guests feel welcome, employees feel supported, and the business operates efficiently and profitably. The General Manager plays a key role in creating an atmosphere that keeps guests coming back while building a strong, dependable team. Position Summary The General Manager oversees all daily operations of Fizzie Mulligans, including staff leadership, financial performance, guest experience, food and beverage operations, pulltab operations, facility management, and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on management position. The General Manager is expected to maintain a regular presence on the floor, work alongside employees, and directly support service and operations when needed. The GM should understand what is happening throughout the business and be willing to step in wherever necessary to keep operations running smoothly. The GM is responsible for ensuring company standards for service, food, beverage, pulltabs, cleanliness, atmosphere, safety, and hospitality are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Service Leadership:
Oversee all front-of-house and back-of-house operations Maintain an active presence on the floor and regularly work alongside the team during service Work scheduled floor shifts as needed to stay connected to daily operations, guests, and employee performance Step into bartending, serving, food running, bussing, pulltab sales, or other operational roles when needed Lead from the floor during busy shifts rather than managing solely from the office Remain visible and accessible to employees and guests, particularly during high-volume periods Maintain high standards for service, food quality, beverage quality, cleanliness, and hospitality Monitor guest flow, ticket times, and overall service performance Lead pre-shift meetings and clearly communicate expectations, priorities, promotions, and operational updates Observe employee performance firsthand and provide real-time coaching, direction, and support Ensure opening, closing, and shift procedures are completed correctly Address operational challenges quickly and professionally Maintain consistency in company policies, procedures, recipes, and service standards Understand each operational position well enough to support employees and identify opportunities for improvement
Pulltab Operations & Gambling Compliance:
Pulltabs are a significant part of the Fizzie Mulligans business. The General Manager is responsible for maintaining strong sales, accurate controls, employee accountability, and regulatory compliance throughout all pulltab operations. Oversee all pulltab operations and ensure games are operated accurately, securely, and in compliance with company procedures and Washington State gambling regulations Monitor pulltab sales and performance and identify opportunities to increase participation and revenue Create a culture where employees appropriately promote pulltabs and understand their importance to the business Ensure employees are properly trained on pulltab sales, payouts, cash handling, game procedures, and required documentation Maintain accurate pulltab inventory, game records, and accountability throughout the life of each game Ensure required pulltab counts and reconciliations are completed accurately between shifts and at the end of each business day Monitor cash handling, payouts, deposits, shortages, overages, and discrepancies Ensure games are opened, maintained, closed, and processed according to company procedures Maintain proper organization and security of pulltab funds, tickets, games, and records Regularly review pulltab performance and communicate goals and expectations to employees Ensure all pulltab operations comply with applicable Washington State Gambling Commission requirements Investigate and document pulltab shortages, overages, procedural issues, or other discrepancies Hold employees accountable for following pulltab procedures consistently
Financial Performance & Cost Control:
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance across food, beverage, pulltabs, and other revenue areas Understand the major revenue drivers of Fizzie Mulligans and actively work to improve performance Manage labor costs through effective scheduling and staffing decisions Monitor food, beverage, inventory, and operating costs Review financial reports and P&L statements Understand and manage key operating expenses Identify opportunities to increase sales and improve profitability Monitor pulltab performance as a significant revenue area of the business Prevent waste, theft, overpouring, cash loss, and inventory loss Maintain appropriate inventory levels while controlling unnecessary costs Investigate unusual variances or financial discrepancies and take appropriate action
Staff Leadership & Development:
Recruit, hire, train, and develop employees Build and maintain appropriate staffing levels for the needs of the business Create schedules that balance business needs, employee availability, and labor goals Coach and mentor supervisors, managers, and employees Set clear expectations and consistently hold employees accountable Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback Address performance, attendance, conduct, and disciplinary issues when necessary Recognize strong employee performance and reinforce company values Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and hospitality Lead by example and demonstrate the work ethic and attitude expected from the team Develop employees who show leadership potential Train and develop the Assistant General Manager to take on greater leadership responsibilities and potentially become a future
GM Guest Experience & Community Presence:
Ensure guests receive friendly, professional, and welcoming service Create an environment that encourages repeat business and builds guest loyalty Regularly interact with guests while working on the floor Build relationships with regular guests and members of the local community Resolve guest concerns and complaints quickly and professionally Maintain awareness of the guest experience throughout each shift Support company marketing initiatives, events, promotions, specials, and community involvement Work with employees to increase guest engagement and participation in promotions, events, and pulltabs Maintain a fun, welcoming, and consistent atmosphere that reflects the Fizzie Mulligans brand
Compliance, Safety & Responsible Service:
Ensure compliance with all applicable Washington State liquor and gambling laws and regulations Maintain food safety and sanitation standards Ensure employees follow proper ID checking and responsible alcohol service procedures Ensure required employee permits and certifications remain current Maintain workplace safety standards Respond appropriately to guest, employee, and facility safety concerns Maintain appropriate procedures for handling intoxicated or disruptive guests Document and report incidents appropriately Maintain compliance with company policies and applicable employment regulations Work with company leadership and HR when employee, safety, or compliance concerns arise
Administrative & Facility Management:
Approve invoices and manage vendor relationships Monitor inventory levels, ordering, receiving, and storage processes Maintain accurate payroll and employee documentation Review schedules and timekeeping for accuracy Complete required administrative responsibilities accurately and on time Ensure the facility is clean, organized, safe, and well maintained Identify maintenance needs and coordinate repairs when necessary Oversee POS system accuracy and operational reporting Maintain required pulltab and gambling records accurately and securely Complete required company reporting accurately and on time Communicate regularly with the Area Manager, Ownership, HR, and other members of the Tangen Hospitality leadership team
Qualifications:
Previous restaurant, bar, or hospitality management experience preferred Experience with pulltabs, gambling operations, or similar cash-controlled operations preferred Strong leadership and team management skills Willingness and ability to regularly work on the floor alongside employees Experience managing labor, inventory, food costs, beverage costs, and other operating expenses Ability to interpret financial reports and P&L statements Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills Ability to coach, develop, and hold employees accountable Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and high-volume shifts as required by the business
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and move for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Ability to bend, reach, carry, and perform other physical tasks associated with restaurant and bar operations Ability to work long shifts in a fast-paced environment Ability to perform the physical responsibilities associated with supporting employees on the floor Additional Expectations The General Manager must maintain a professional attitude, lead by example, and foster a team-oriented culture. This is not an office-only management position. The GM is expected to know what is happening throughout the business, maintain a consistent presence on the floor, and step in when the team needs support. The GM is expected to take ownership of the overall performance of Fizzie Mulligans and make decisions with the long-term success of the business, its employees, and its guests in mind.
