Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, energetic, and customer-focused Food Service Manager to oversee the daily operations of our deli and smoothie bar within a health food store environment. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring exceptional food quality, outstanding customer service, team development, operational efficiency, and compliance with all food safety standards. The ideal candidate is passionate about healthy living, fresh food preparation, and creating a positive experience for customers while leading a high-performing team. Key Responsibilities Operations Management Oversee all daily deli and smoothie bar operations. Ensure food products are prepared, displayed, and served according to company standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment. Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation throughout the day. Manage opening and closing procedures. Team Leadership Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise deli and smoothie bar staff. Foster a positive, productive, and customer-focused workplace culture. Conduct employee coaching, performance evaluations, and ongoing training. Ensure adequate staffing levels during all operating hours. Lead by example through active participation in daily operations. Customer Service Deliver and promote exceptional customer service. Address customer concerns promptly and professionally. Build relationships with customers and provide product recommendations. Promote health-focused menu offerings and store initiatives. Inventory & Purchasing Manage inventory levels for deli, smoothie bar, and prepared foods. Order products, ingredients, supplies, and packaging materials. Minimize waste through proper inventory control and product rotation. Monitor food costs and maintain target margins. Food Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal food safety regulations. Maintain food handling, sanitation, and temperature control standards. Conduct regular inspections and maintain accurate records. Ensure staff are properly trained in food safety procedures. Financial Performance Monitor sales, labor costs, food costs, and profitability. Develop strategies to increase sales and improve operational efficiency. Assist with budgeting and forecasting. Analyze performance metrics and implement improvements as needed. Menu Development & Merchandising Collaborate on seasonal menu items, prepared foods, smoothies, and healthy meal offerings. Create attractive food displays and merchandising presentations. Identify trends and opportunities to enhance customer engagement and sales. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years of food service management or supervisory experience. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. Proficiency with scheduling, inventory management, and basic computer systems. Preferred Experience in a deli, café, smoothie bar, juice bar, grocery food service department, or health food store. ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain). Passion for nutrition, wellness, and healthy living. Experience with inventory control, ordering, and cost management. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motions. Ability to work in refrigerated and food preparation areas. Schedule Full-time position. Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
