Innovation is key for this position brining new ideas and recipes for growth of the department. This position ensures exceptional food quality, food safety compliance, profitability, customer satisfaction, and team performance. The Food Service Director leads daily operations, manages staff, controls costs, and develops strategies to increase sales and enhance the overall customer experience. Key Responsibilities Operations Management Oversee daily operations of deli, bakery, hot foods, catering, and other food service departments. Ensure products are prepared, displayed, and served according to company standards. Maintain high standards of food quality, freshness, presentation, and cleanliness. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing activities. Develop and implement operational procedures to improve efficiency and productivity. Leadership & Staff Management Schedule staff to ensure appropriate coverage and labor efficiency. Train, coach, and evaluate food service employees. Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and customer service. Conduct performance reviews and administer corrective actions when necessary. Lead department meetings and ongoing training initiatives. Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health regulations. Maintain food safety standards, including HACCP, sanitation, and temperature controls. Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance. Train employees on food handling, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures. Financial Management Develop and manage department budgets. Monitor labor costs, food costs, waste, and inventory shrink. Analyze sales and financial reports to identify opportunities for improvement. Implement strategies to achieve sales, profit, and expense goals. Manage vendor relationships and negotiate product purchasing when applicable. Customer Service & Sales Growth Ensure exceptional customer service throughout all food service departments. Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly. Develop promotions, seasonal offerings, and merchandising strategies to increase sales. Collaborate with marketing and store leadership on special events and catering opportunities. Track customer preferences and market trends to enhance product offerings. Qualifications Education College degree or equivalent experience in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience 5+ years of food service, restaurant, grocery, or retail food management experience. 2+ years of leadership experience managing multiple departments or large teams. Experience with budgeting, cost control, inventory management, and food safety programs. Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and team development skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Knowledge of food service operations, merchandising, and customer service. Understanding of food safety regulations and compliance requirements. Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and profitability. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and food service management systems. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in refrigerated, kitchen, and production environments. Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed. Reliable transportation, and proper attendance.
