Glia's Coffee Co. is hiring one full-time Barista Shift Leader for our cafe at 404 Arizona Ave. The shift leader runs each shift they work. This includes leading the team, keeping service on track, ensuring drinks and customer service meet our standards, and handling issues as they arise. When the Shop Manager is not in the shop, the shift leader is in charge. The shift leader also works on the bar and makes drinks with the team during every shift. This position reports to the Shop Manager. Pay Starting pay is $12 per hour, plus tips. Responsibilities Shift Leadership Open or close the shop following our procedures Assign positions and breaks at the start of each shift and adjust as it gets busier or slower Make decisions and handle problems when the Shop Manager is not present Give clear direction and coaching to baristas on drink quality, speed, and service Hold teammates to shop standards and address issues respectfully and directly Document and report performance, attendance, and conduct concerns to the Shop Manager Customer Service Provide friendly, professional service and set an example for the team Resolve customer concerns and bring larger issues to the Shop Manager Check drink quality, wait times, and cleanliness throughout the shift Shop Operations Prepare drinks to recipe, including consistent latte art Make sure checklists, cleaning, restocking, and side work are finished before the shift ends Handle cash, register counts, and end-of-shift reports accurately Receive deliveries, help with inventory counts, and report low stock Report equipment problems to the Shop Manager right away Train new baristas on drink preparation and shop procedures Leave clear shift notes for the next shift and the Shop Manager Expectations Shifts start on time and fully set up, and all closing duties are completed Drink quality and service are consistent whether or not the Shop Manager is present Problems are handled or reported the same day Teammates know what is expected of them and receive feedback during the shift Standards are applied the same way to every teammate Required Qualifications At least 1 year of barista experience in a busy café or coffee shop Strong customer service and hospitality skills Comfortable directing coworkers and giving feedback respectfully Ability to maintain professional relationships with teammates and enforce standards consistently and fairly Strong sense of accountability and follow-through Organized, detail oriented, and able to stay calm during busy periods Reliable and punctual, with a strong attendance record Ability to pour basic latte art consistently, or to learn to do so within 3 weeks of hire Accurate cash handling Basic computer skills, including email, checklists, and simple documents Food Handler certification, or willingness to obtain one within 30 days of hire Availability for early mornings, weekends, and holidays Ability to stand for full shifts and lift up to 50 lbs Preferred Qualifications Previous shift lead, supervisor, or keyholder experience Strong espresso dial-in and milk steaming skills Experience training new staff Experience with Square POS References Applicants must provide at least two references from their most recent employers.
