Job Description
Golden Ratio is seeking experienced, thoughtful, and highly engaged Servers to join our team in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Golden Ratio is the newest concept from Redwood Hospitality, the Brooklyn restaurant group behind Oxalis, Place des Fêtes, Cafe Mado, and Laurel Bakery. We are building an ambitious cocktail bar centered around original drinks, genuine hospitality, and a more sustainable approach to how ingredients are sourced and used. Our rotating cocktail list begins with seasonal produce, including ingredients sourced from local farms, greenmarkets, and foragers. Through fermentation, distillation, preservation, and other techniques, these ingredients are transformed into cocktails and nonalcoholic drinks that are expressive, precise, and deeply connected to their source. The beverage program is accompanied by a vegetable-forward food menu designed to make Golden Ratio as compelling for a full evening as it is for a single drink. Golden Ratio is a single-room cocktail bar with several distinct energy zones: a welcoming lounge, a central bar, intimate banquettes and booths, and a lively standing area. Service requires an awareness of the entire room and the ability to move comfortably between polished table service, casual bar hospitality, and a busy, energetic late-night environment. We aim for the highest level of execution without losing warmth, personality, or accessibility. Our service should be knowledgeable but never performative, attentive without feeling rigid, and genuinely responsive to what each guest is looking for. The Role Servers are central to the experience we are building. This role requires more than taking orders and delivering drinks. Our Servers help guests understand an unfamiliar and evolving cocktail program, guide them toward drinks and food they will enjoy, and create an experience that feels personal rather than transactional. We are looking for people who are excited to help raise standards, contribute ideas, and take real ownership of the room. The strongest candidates will combine technical ability with curiosity, emotional intelligence, urgency, and an instinct for hospitality.
Responsibilities include:
Creating warm, sincere, and individualized experiences for every guest Learning and confidently communicating the ingredients, techniques, and stories behind our cocktail, nonalcoholic, wine, and food programs Helping guests navigate an original menu through thoughtful questions and clear, approachable recommendations Maintaining precise steps of service while adapting naturally to different guests, occasions, and areas of the room Reading the pace and energy of the bar and anticipating what guests and teammates need Building checks thoughtfully through informed recommendations rather than aggressive selling Demonstrating excellent knowledge of allergies, dietary restrictions, and responsible alcohol service Maintaining accuracy and attention to detail when entering orders, handling payments, marking tables, and communicating with the bar and kitchen Supporting opening, closing, side work, cleanliness, organization, and the ongoing care of the space Communicating proactively with managers and teammates when service begins to slip or a guest experience requires additional attention Receiving feedback openly and contributing to a culture of accountability, education, and continuous improvement Helping train and support newer team members as your knowledge of the program develops Contributing to the evolution of a young bar with significant creative and professional ambitions What We're Looking For Ideal candidates will have: Prior serving experience in a high-quality restaurant, cocktail bar, wine bar, or similarly ambitious hospitality environment A strong foundation in service fundamentals, organization, and attention to detail Genuine interest in cocktails, spirits, wine, food, fermentation, seasonality, and sustainable sourcing The ability to explain technical or unfamiliar ideas in language that feels natural and welcoming Strong situational awareness and the ability to remain composed during busy service A team-first mentality and willingness to step outside a narrowly defined station when the room needs support Confidence paired with humility, curiosity, and openness to coaching Clear and respectful communication with guests, managers, bartenders, kitchen staff, and fellow Servers An understanding that excellence is built through consistency in both highly visible moments and routine daily work Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the business Deep cocktail knowledge is valuable, but curiosity, discipline, and the desire to learn matter just as much. We are interested in candidates who care deeply about hospitality and want to grow alongside the program. Why Join Golden Ratio? Golden Ratio is still establishing its identity, standards, and place within New York's cocktail community. This is an opportunity to join the bar during a formative period and play a meaningful role in what it becomes. Team members receive ongoing education in cocktails, spirits, wine, food, service, and the techniques behind our beverage program. As Redwood Hospitality continues to grow, we want to develop people who are interested in taking on greater responsibility at Golden Ratio and throughout the broader restaurant group.Benefits include:
