Hiring Agency Education & Labor Cabinet | Office of the Secretary Location 500 Mero Street Frankfort, KY 40601 USA Description The Education and Labor Cabinet's mission is to educate, prepare and train Kentucky's current and future workforces. Our goal is to create and make continuous improvements to an education and workforce system that prepares Kentuckians for the 21st century workforce, while helping businesses find the skilled workers they need to compete and create jobs in the Commonwealth. The cabinet is seeking to fill a Postal Technician I position located within the Office of Administrative Services. This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.
Job duties include:
Receives and sorts all incoming mail. Picks up and delivers regular and messenger mail to the appropriate internal recipients. Assists Cabinet employees with the proper mailing and shipping procedures. Picks up all outgoing mail from Office Unemployment Insurance (OUI) employees in designated areas. Sorts and uses postage equipment as needed for weight, postage and accounting systems. Gathers Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax deposits and other documents and delivers to Department of Treasury and Revenue daily. Retrieves UI claimant checks, off-cycle payroll checks and various checks for accounting branch and delivers as appropriate. Performs routine maintenance on postal equipment including cleaning, oiling, and minor adjustments as needed to ensure equipment remains operational. Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred skills:
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Ability to work within a team as well as independently. Excellent interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to lift up to 70 pounds, move mail carts weighing up to 800 pounds, operate machinery which requires standing, walking and lifting above head. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete training, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.
