Job Description HR Director - Global Operations - Decatur, IL This is an exempt level position.
Position Summary:
ADM is seeking a strategic and highly collaborative HR Director to serve as the primary Human Resources Business Partner for the Global Operations organization supporting the legacy businesses, including Ag Services & Oilseeds, Carbohydrate Solutions, and Milling. This leader will partner with Global Operations executives and business leaders to align the people strategy with operational priorities, strengthen organizational capability, and drive consistent HR practices across a complex, global manufacturing network. This position will be directly responsible for the North America region and collaborate as required with HR teams in other regions. The HR Director will lead a team of regional HR managers and will have functional accountability for plant HR managers across North America. The role requires an experienced HR leader who can translate transformational business strategy into practical workforce, organization, talent, and culture solutions while effectively navigating global, regional, and site-level priorities.
Additional Context:
Serve as the lead HRBP for the Global Operations leadership team, including both manufacturing leaders as well as technology center leaders across the legacy operations, ensuring the people agenda supports business performance, operational reliability, and long-term growth. Lead and develop a team of regional HR managers and provide strategic direction, governance, and functional accountability for plant HR managers throughout North America. Align global, regional, and site HR priorities while promoting consistent standards, clear decision rights, and strong partnership across operations leadership and HR. Lead critical initiatives in workforce planning, organizational design and effectiveness, succession, talent development, employee experience and engagement, labor strategy, and cultural transformation. Demonstrate influential leadership through strong relationship-building, coaching, feedback, and mentoring, creating an environment in which leaders and employees can thrive. Navigate effectively between strategy and execution-partnering with senior leaders on multi-year priorities while ensuring strong delivery of day-to-day people solutions across regions and plants.
Core Job Responsibilities:
Develop and execute the Global Operations people strategy for the legacy AS&O, Carbohydrate Solutions, and Milling businesses, addressing short- and long-term needs across organizational structure, workforce capability, leadership, culture, and location strategy. Act as a trusted advisor to Global Operations leaders, providing data-informed counsel on organization effectiveness, workforce risks, talent priorities, and change initiatives. Lead, coach, and develop regional HR managers, establishing clear priorities, operating rhythms, and performance expectations across the HR team. Provide functional leadership and accountability for North American plant HR managers, strengthening capability, consistency, governance, and delivery across manufacturing sites. Translate business and operational strategies into integrated workforce plans, including critical-role planning, succession, talent deployment, leadership development, and capability building. Partner with Operations leadership, Finance, Talent, Learning and Development, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Employee Relations, and other HR Centers of Excellence to deliver practical, scalable solutions. Lead organizational design, restructuring, integration, and change management efforts that improve effectiveness, clarify accountabilities, and enable operational performance. Advance employee engagement, retention, inclusion, and culture initiatives across regional and plant environments, using workforce insights to identify priorities and measure impact. Support labor and employee relations strategies, ensuring proactive risk management, sound decision-making, and alignment with company policies and applicable requirements. Establish and monitor key people metrics, identify trends and risks, and hold HR leaders accountable for timely, high-quality execution.
Required Skills:
Proven ability to operate as a strategic HR business partner to senior operations leaders in a complex, global, and matrixed organization. Strong people leadership capabilities, with experience leading regional HR teams and influencing site-based HR professionals through functional accountability. Skilled in business transformation, organization design, workforce planning, talent management, succession, change leadership, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness. Strong business and operational acumen, with the ability to connect people priorities to safety, reliability, productivity, cost, growth, and customer outcomes. Ability to communicate and operate with authenticity, candor, and positive intent while building enduring trust across executive, regional, and plant stakeholders. Critical thinking and solution orientation, with equal strength in connecting business issues, workforce insights, and people relationships. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence, facilitate, and communicate effectively across cultures and organizational levels. A self-starter who can thrive in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments, exercise sound judgment, and consistently deliver on commitments.
Required Experience:
10+ years of progressive Human Resources Generalist and HR Business Partner experience, including leadership responsibility in a complex organization. Experience supporting global operations, manufacturing, supply chain, or a similarly distributed, asset-intensive business environment. Demonstrated experience leading regional HR professionals and providing functional direction to plant- or site-based HR teams. Experience partnering with senior executives and translating business strategy into workforce, organization, talent, and culture priorities. Experience leading organizational transformation, change management, organizational effectiveness, talent management, and organization design. Experience with employee and labor relations in manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
