Job Description
The Louisiana Special School District (LSSD) is an education service agency that provides services to the Louisiana Special Schools (Louisiana School for the Deaf, Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired and Special School Programs). The schools provide educational opportunities to students with low-incidence disabilities and a variety of unique needs. The Human Resources Specialist will assist with day-to-day HR functions including hiring, onboarding, employee support, and compliance. This position plays a key role in maintaining effective HR operations and supporting our workforce.

Six years of human resources experience; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of human resources experience; OR A bachelor's degree plus three years of human resources experience; OR An advanced degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, industrial and organizational psychology, organizational behavior, or a Juris Doctorate plus two years of human resources experience.EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. Designation as a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience. - R esponsible for extensive/specialized unclassified and teacher employment-related tasks.
- Responsible for e mployee administration, salary/payroll administration, staffing, Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL), leave management, and a working knowledge of the LaGov HCM system.
- Knowledge of State Civil Service (DSCS) Rules, State and Federal laws, SSD policies and procedures, and school system operations.
- Knowledge of the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) Bulletin 1491, 'Teacher Benefit Law", and Bulletin 746, "LA Standards for State Certification of School Personnel".
