We are the largest family owned and operated waste and recycling provider in Minnesota providing over 100,000 services each week with a fleet fueled by both diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG). Job Summary The role of the HR Specialist will be to provide day-to-day support for all of our employees on a variety of needs, including payroll, benefits, and compliance training along with administrative responsibilities of the Human Resources operations. Primary Job Duties Onboarding & Offboarding Conducts and coordinates new hire paperwork and onboarding activities, according to checklist (background checks, E-Verify, pre-hire drug screening, Human Performance Evaluations (HPE) and DOT Physical. + Coordinates all offboarding activities, according to checklist Create new hire packets Backup to conducting new hire orientation Benefits Assists employees navigate HRIS during Open Enrollment Reconcile benefit invoices with HRIS employee benefit enrollment data. Payroll Distribute paystubs & pay stubs & W-2's Employee Relations Assist employees with uniform issues, HRIS navigation, timeclock issues, basic questions on benefits (enrollment, changes, issues) - referring complex matters to the HR Generalist. Providing assistance when needed for conflict resolution, investigations, disciplinary meetings, or terminations. Actively build trust with all employees Actively build and maintain interpersonal relationships within HR Department Assist with team engagement exercises, such as birthday and anniversary cards Administrative Responsible for handling confidential documents with discretion. Assist with continuous improvement of Human Resources processes and procedures. Compliance Maintain employee files, ensuring accuracy, compliance, confidentiality, and separation requirements Participates in continuing education including updates to employment laws and regulations, best practices in HR functional areas. Assists with employer notice postings, review of upcoming/recent law changes affecting Walter's Recycling. Technology Assist with optimization of HR technology Training and Development May assist the Training team as needed. Other tasks as needed
Education and Experience Required:
Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Minimum 1-2 years of HR specialist experience required. Intermediate computer knowledge Strong attention to detail
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPRH required without a bachelor's degree in HR, otherwise strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a climate-controlled company. Employees operate standard office equipment including: telephone, headset, computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, and copier/scanner. Physical tasks of the job include: walking, sitting, standing, and bending.
