Full Job Description Animal Care Specialist Job Summary:
We are looking for a part-time or full-time individual to help with the daily care, training and maintenance of various exotic animals, their housing and enclosures. To be considered for this job you will need 5+ years of zoo, sanctuary, wildlife center or other environments/position devoted to animal care. This job requires an individual who maintains considerable strength.Essential Job Duties:
Maintenance and care of a variety of animals within the compound. Help prepare animal diets daily. Help clean all animal enclosures and compounds. Assist in checking the appearance and health of the animals daily. Ensure safe working environment for staff and animals. Maintain log as needed concerning animal health, behaviors, enrichment and diet. Maintain and understand all federal and state records and regulations. Assist in the training and enrichment of assigned animals. Help organize and execute behind the scenes tours and donor cultivation events. Perform various maintenance and repair activities on animal quarters. Adhere to all facility & department policies.Minimum Qualifications:
Must have experience with large carnivores, raptors and hoof stock. Must possess ability to make appropriate decisions under pressure and in changing circumstances if immediate direction is unavailable. Must have quick reflexes and be able to react quickly to changing animal situations. Must be in excellent physical condition and possess the mental capacities to perform the essential job duties. Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. and sometimes up to 75 lbs. with assistance. Must possess the physical dexterity to hold and maneuver equipment. Must be able to walk and run quickly as needed. Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to work Saturdays, evenings, early mornings, and holidays as needed. Must be articulate and be able to speak and understand English. Must have good corrected/uncorrected vision and good hearing. Education and/orExperience:
5+ years of zoo keeping experience. Must have EXTREME attention to details. Please do not apply if you do not meet the minimum qualifications.Salary:
