Job Summary Join our dynamic team as an Animal Care Intern and play a vital role in supporting the health, well-being, and enrichment of our diverse animal populations. The program offers an opportunity to engage in meaningful volunteer work by working closely with animals rescued from abuse and/or neglect, while also collaborating with sanctuary volunteers and the local community. This program also offers volunteers educational and medical training and experience with farmed animals. The Animal Care Internship volunteers may choose to reside in a designated private space located on the sanctuary's property. The current space includes an outdoor kitchen, outdoor shower, enclosed bathroom, solar power, and Wi-Fi. As an optional volunteer benefit, participants may also be reimbursed for eligible food expenses incurred while volunteering, up to $250 per month, in accordance with the sanctuary's reimbursement policy. The Animal Care Internship is a voluntary, unpaid learning experience designed to provide hands-on training in animal care and sanctuary operations. We are currently seeking applicants for Fall 2026 and Winter 2027. We do not allow any drug use, smoking or excessive drinking, and no animal products onsite out of respect for our rescued sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, etc. We also ask that products brought on site are vegan as well! Public transportation is available, with a bus stop about 3 minutes away from the sanctuary. Program Brief Summary of Core Responsibilities An Animal Care Internship volunteer is asked to contribute 20-25 hours per week. The schedule will vary, with days off also varying throughout the week depending on the needs of the sanctuary and rescued residents. We are flexible with volunteers that have part-time jobs! The volunteer's core responsibilities include helping address the evolving needs of Aloha Animal Sanctuary by serving the rescued residents, providing wellness and medical support, supplying meals for all animals, cleaning enclosures and habitats, providing emergency support when possible, and participating in community events hosted at the sanctuary.
