Job Description

Job Overview We are now hiring for a weekend Animal caretaker for our vet clinic, starting in August. Weekend Animal Caretaker is responsible for the care of hospitalized and boarding pets at our facility (walking, feeding, medicating, cleaning cages, etc) Saturday mornings and Sundays on alternating weekends. The ACT also assists in veterinary appointments Saturday morning (8am to 1PM). This position is ideal for a student as we do not require any hours during the week, except for periodic training opportunities. Usually averages 8 to 12 hours every other weekend. Thanks, Dr. Mary Duties Feed, water, and monitor the health of animals, including dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and small mammals Provide gentle handling and restraint to animals during routine care or veterinary procedures Maintain clean and safe enclosures, kennels, and outdoor areas to promote animal welfare Assist with pet grooming, walking dogs. Observe animal behavior closely to identify signs of distress or illness and report findings promptly Requirements Most important skills are the ability to be reliable, consistent, and work independently. Must be able to provide compassionate care to a variety of pets while maintaining high standards of safety and hygiene Prior experience in veterinary clinics, pet care facilities, or animal shelters is highly desirable Experience with exotic care and pet grooming is beneficial but not required Ability to perform manual handling tasks including lifting of supplies or pets up to 40-50 pounds Knowledge of veterinary assistant duties, pet handling, medicating, and restraint are a plus This is an ideal position for a vet student, pre-vet student, or someone interested in learning more about animal care.
