Job Description

Experienced Dog Trainer — Part-Time Custom-K9 Bay Area Dog Training & Boarding | Pacifica, CA $25/hour starting | 20-40 hours/week | In-person Do You Love Training Dogs? Custom-K9 is looking for an experienced Dog Trainer to join our small, hands-on team in Pacifica. We work with dogs of all breeds, sizes, ages, and personalities through Day Training, Board & Train, structured daycare, and private training . Our approach is relationship-based and balanced, with an emphasis on structure, clear communication, consistency, and building confident, well-mannered dogs. If you're someone who gets excited about seeing a dog make progress — and you enjoy working with everything from puppies to strong, challenging, or reactive dogs — we'd love to meet you! What You'll Be Doing Training dogs throughout the day using individualized training plans Working on place, sit, down, stay, heel, recall, leash skills, neutrality, and impulse control Helping dogs develop confidence and appropriate social behavior Using balanced training methods and tools, including e-collars, prong collars, and slip leads Handling dogs with different personalities, energy levels, and behavioral challenges Providing structured exercise, enrichment, and supervised socialization Observing and communicating changes in behavior or training progress Helping with feeding, kennel care, cleaning, and general dog-care responsibilities We're Looking For Someone Who Has professional dog training experience Is comfortable with balanced training methods and tools Understands canine body language and behavior Can confidently and safely handle strong, nervous, reactive, or challenging dogs Is patient, fair, consistent, and confident Is dependable, punctual, and takes pride in their work Enjoys working independently but is also a team player Has a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and can transport dogs when needed Doesn't mind getting their hands dirty — this is a very hands-on job!
The Details Pay:
$25/hour to start
Hours:
Approximately 20-40 hours/week
Schedule:
Primarily Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends
Hours:
Shifts may fall between 7:00 AM and 6:00
PM Location:
Pacifica, CA Review:
3-month introductory period followed by a performance/compensation review Why This Position Is Different This isn't a traditional kennel or daycare position where dogs simply sit in runs all day. Our trainers are actively working with the dogs throughout the day. You'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in a dog's behavior, confidence, and relationship with their owner — while continuing to develop your own training skills.
