Animal/Kennel Attendant ARK Pet Oasis - The ARK at JFK John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) 78A North Boundary Rd., New York 11430 Reporting to the APO Operations Manager and Shift Supervisor, Attendants will be responsible for providing the very best short-term care for pets transiting through JFK International Airport. Responsibilities will include, walking, feeding, grooming/cleaning and drop off/pickups, if needed. In addition, Attendants must keep accurate records of animals' care, scan documents into system, generate invoices, take payments, respond to emails, interact with Federal agencies and customers in person and by telephone, maintain a clean work environment, and recognize supply needs.
- Provide high quality dog, cat and other small animal care - walking, feeding, recreation, prepare for outbound flight, receive from inbound flight
- Feed and hydrate pets; provide medication as needed according to scheduled feeding instructions
- Maintain Kennel Charts and documentation for each animal
- Perform animal grooming duties such as washing, brushing, and drying, when required
- Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, stress, or behavioral changes and report issues or concerns to the supervisor
- Administer basic medications or treatments as directed by veterinarians or supervisors while under their supervision
- Help with intake procedures, cleaning travel crate upon arrival and preparing intake documentation
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, runs and common areas
- Maintain cleanliness of food preparation and storage areas
- Wash bedding, dishes and equipment
- Follow biosecurity and safety protocols to prevent disease spread
- Assist clients during drop-off and pick-up
- Communicate effectively about animal behavior, belongings and care instructions
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, treatment, behavior and activities
- Demonstrate professionalism and customer service skills when working with customers, government agencies (USDA, CBP, CDC, USFWS, etc.) and airline representatives
- Transportation for pets to/from cargo facilities and terminals at JFK airport
- Prep and screen travel crate prior to departure
- Basic maintenance and repair of crates and kennels
- Flexible when dealing with unplanned pick-ups and drop-offs
- Follow emergency procedures for escapes, injuries or severe health issues
- High School Diploma; Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Valid driver's license with good driving history
- Animal handling experience - must be confident handling dogs, cats, and other small animals; aggressive/anxious dog/cat experience needed
- Basic LAR in-house training
- Written and oral communication skills
- Willingness and ability to work non-standard shifts including weekends and/or 12-hour shifts
- Must provide own reliable transportation to/from work
- Ability to prioritize and make plans with sound decision-making skills; time management
- Dependable, reliable, and efficient
- Working knowledge and proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Must be able to lift loads (up to 50 lbs.)
- Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, French, German and/or Italian a plus
- Must meet Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Port Authority, and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements which include a background check and fingerprinting
- Required to sign confidentiality agreement for privacy and biosecurity measures for The ARK facility : ARK Pet Oasis is a 24/7/365 business and so you may be expected to work holidays, overnight shifts, or weekends.
Opened in January, 2017, The ARK at JFK is a world premier animal reception cargo terminal operation and the first USDA-approved, full-service 24-hour privately owned airport quarantine facility for the import and export of horses, pets, birds, exotic animals and livestock travelling by air to, from and through John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This comprehensive multi-purpose animal handling and air cargo facility at JFK comprises approximately 168,000 s.f. located in Cargo Area D directly on the secure Airport Operations Area ("AOA"). In addition to ARK IEC, the facility houses the operations of Worldwide Freight Services ("WFS"), an airport centered urgent health care and rehabilitation operation, and office space for cargo/freight forwarding companies. Racebrook Capital, a Manhattan-based firm, developed, financed and constructed the facility - the first new cargo building construction at JFK since 9/11 through its affiliate, ARK Development. ARK Development manages the real estate and leasing operations; ARK IEC operates the AVI cargo and quarantine enterprise.
