An Animal Trainer trains animals to become familiar with human voices and contact, and to respond to commands. Trains dogs to assist people with disabilities. May train animals for a health, competition, or show. May train other animals such as horses, dolphins, and apes.

We are seeking an experienced behavioral modification dog trainer who can help with fear-based issues such as: Leash reactivity Resource guarding Stranger danger Barking General fears and anxiety Other urban anxiety issues You would not need to provide separation anxiety training Besides behavior modification, you would also be teaching basic manners as necessary, such as loose leash walking, recall, and more, including with puppies and adult dogs. We use 100% positive reinforcement only, not balanced training - no shock collars, prong collars, choke chains, or dominance methods are allowed. You will be responsible for delivering training programs via private lessons, both at customers' homes and at our training facility. There will also be future opportunities to teach classes, including basic manners, leash reactivity, and canine sports. You must have a reliable car, as you will be driving to peoples' homes, which are in the city and surrounding neighborhoods. We pay for parking when at our facility, and customers pay for parking when you come to their homes.
The ideal candidate will:
Possess a strong foundation in behavioral modification, not just basic manners. Have at least several years working with dogs in an urban environment such as in high-rises and busy streets. Be 100% committed to positive reinforcement, and be familiar with typical exercises, plus leading trainers in the industry. Have a professional certification and/or graduated from a leading academy, although this is not a requirement for being hired. Be highly professional in demeanor and communication skills, and work well with customers and co-workers. Be adaptable and have a strong desire to constantly be learning, just like all of our trainers. Not afraid of dogs (and sometimes customers) who can be challenging. This includes an ability to problem-solve, think on your feet, and be creative. We have a Training Academy to help you learn, including shadowing with other experienced trainers and collaborating on difficult cases - the most important part is that you have a strong foundation and don't fear working with challenging dogs. We are an established business with a large customer base, and you will be walking into a very busy schedule. The position is 40 hours per week, and requires at least one weekend day per week (since this is what many customers need), plus working until the early evenings. Even if you run your own business now, you can make significantly more money here, and don't have to worry about finding customers, managing your website, fielding inquiries, accounting, taxes, following up with people, support staff, insurance or any other similar administrative requirements. Just focus on the dogs, and we take care of the rest. This includes a team of training advisors who take inbound inquiries from customers, and who are very skilled at the sales process, and who are dedicated to filling your calendar.
