Position Summary:

The Youth Cast Assistant is responsible for leading members of Nashville Ballet's youth cast from the dressing rooms up to the stage at Tennessee Performing Arts Center and helping with arrival and dismissal. Nashville Ballet seeks a focused, motivated individual with attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, flexibility, and ability to problem solve. Should either have a working knowledge of the basic operations of a theater production, or present a willingness and ability to learn. Theater experience, dance experience, or a familiarity with Nashville's Nutcracker are all a plus.

Essential Functions and Competencies:

• Maintain strong internal communication with staff of Nashville Ballet, including but not limited to reading all materials provided to you via email, such as schedules, job description, updates, and/or notes.
• Wait at the stage door as youth cast members arrive and take groups of children and their chaperones down to the dressing rooms.
• Assist dancers with their arrival and dismissal from their car to the stage door.
• Ensure all students are checked-in before their set call time.
• Communicate with Youth Program Coordinator and artistic staff if a dancer is missing from dress rehearsal or a performance.
• Once all the youth cast members have arrived and you have taken them all to the dressing rooms, stay near the dressing rooms where you can hear the calls from the stage manager.
• Using the cast list that is assigned for the rehearsal or performance, bring each group out of the dressing rooms and into the hall.
• Count the youth cast members to make sure you have everyone. Double check that they leave their eyeglasses in the dressing room and that no one is chewing gum or missing a costume piece, shoes on, etc.
• When the Stage Manager calls for a group of students, bring them upstairs in the correct order while utilizing the provided Track Sheet.
• Distribute props as necessary backstage. Stay with youth cast members and keep them quiet and focused prior to their entry onstage. Keep yourself and the group far enough back in the wings that you are not seen from the audience.
• Once the children go onstage, follow instructions on your provided Track Sheet and prepare to meet them as they leave the stage for the last time. You will then bring them back downstairs to their dressing rooms.
• At the end of the production, report back to the dressing rooms and assist with leading the groups back up to the stage door with their chaperones for dismissal.

General Responsibilities:

• Work autonomously as a member of a group, exhibiting both teamwork as well as the ability to take leadership of a group.
• Listen attentively to the stage managers calls and keep track of when and where each group needs to be.
• Be informed about your assigned Nashville Ballet production. Learn the separate roles, which groups are in which Act, etc.
• Be respectful of other Youth Cast Assistants and the Professional Dresser. Be prepared to assist where needed and/or as assigned by the Professional Dresser, Nashville Ballet Production staff, or Artistic staff.
• Demonstrate an ability to command the attention of groups of children, keeping them quiet, focused, and smiling.

Work Schedule:

This position is seasonal. November 23rd-December 27th Shifts will be for the duration of a Nashville's Nutcracker show or dress rehearsal, which run anywhere from 3-6 hours (including youth cast arrival and dancer warm-up time.) Times vary from 10a.m.-2:30p.m., 12-4:30 p.m., or 5-9:30 p.m. based on each date.
