Our brand-new hospital is a general practice and urgent care, created to make the client experience seamless, keep patient care the priority, and provide the most innovative and modern veterinary medicine. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Veterinary Technician / RVT to join our hospital leadership team. This position is ideal for a confident veterinary technician who enjoys being a resource for their team, has strong clinical skills, and understands that effective leadership means being present, approachable, accountable, and willing to jump in wherever needed. The Lead Veterinary Technician serves as an on-floor leadership presence, helping maintain patient care standards, support staff, coordinate workflow, and ensure the hospital operates efficiently throughout the shift. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and problem solver who can balance patient care with team leadership while remaining calm and professional in a fast-paced general practice and urgent care environment. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Support Serve as an on-floor leadership presence and a first point of contact for technicians, assistants, and other hospital team members. Model professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and adherence to hospital standards and protocols. Remain present, engaged, and accessible to the treatment floor throughout the shift. Provide guidance, support, and direction to technicians and assistants as questions or challenges arise. Foster a positive, respectful, and solution-focused team environment. Address staff concerns objectively and fairly, escalating issues to management when appropriate. Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries when handling employee or client concerns. Lead by example and demonstrate a willingness to assist with patient care and hospital tasks when needed. Operational Oversight Help oversee daily treatment floor workflow, including hospitalized patients, surgery, technician appointments, urgent care cases, and other patient care areas. Monitor patient care to ensure treatments, medications, procedures, monitoring, and other orders are completed appropriately and in a timely manner. Help coordinate workflow between veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and client service representatives. Identify workflow or staffing concerns and communicate solutions or recommendations to management. Assist with coordinating coverage for callouts, unexpected staffing needs, and changes in patient volume. Help ensure appropriate staffing and patient-care coverage throughout the shift. Monitor staff breaks and lunches and help ensure team members receive appropriate break coverage. Assist with maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient treatment environment. Help ensure hospital protocols, SOPs, and safety standards are consistently followed. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adjust responsibilities or scheduling based on hospital needs. Clinical Support & Patient Care Provide high-quality nursing care and technical support to hospitalized, urgent care, and general practice patients. Assist veterinarians with examinations, procedures, diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries as needed. Perform technical duties appropriate to experience and credentialing, including venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, laboratory procedures, radiographs, medication administration, patient monitoring, and other nursing responsibilities. Assist with stabilization and treatment of urgent and emergent patients. Serve as an experienced clinical resource for technicians and assistants. Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns promptly to the appropriate veterinarian. Help maintain high standards of patient safety, comfort, cleanliness, and overall quality of care. Client Relations Assist with difficult, upset, or dissatisfied clients in a professional, compassionate, and solution-focused manner. Support clear communication between clients and the medical team. Help reinforce treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and other patient-care information as directed by the veterinarian. Represent LOVE professionally and help create a positive client experience. Training & Development Mentor and support veterinary technicians and assistants in their clinical and professional development. Help onboard and train new team members. Reinforce hospital SOPs, protocols, safety procedures, and workflow expectations. Provide real-time coaching and constructive feedback when appropriate. Identify training needs, performance concerns, and opportunities for staff development and communicate them to management. Recognize and communicate staff successes and accomplishments to management. Assist with implementing new hospital initiatives, protocols, equipment, and workflow changes. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited veterinary technician program preferred. Current
RVT/CVT/LVT
credential preferred; RVT strongly preferred for this position. Minimum of 3-5 years of veterinary technician experience in a hospital or clinical setting. Previous leadership, mentorship, or senior technician experience strongly preferred. Strong clinical knowledge and technical skills. Experience with anesthesia, surgery, hospitalized patients, diagnostics, and urgent/emergency cases. Strong understanding of patient monitoring, medication administration, treatment protocols, and veterinary nursing care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively. Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in a fast-paced environment. Ability to address staff concerns objectively and maintain appropriate confidentiality. Ability to work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, CSRs, and hospital management. Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and willingness to take ownership of responsibilities. Flexibility to assist with staffing and scheduling needs, including occasional coverage for callouts, vacations, or periods of high patient volume. Compassionate, patient-focused attitude and commitment to providing exceptional veterinary care. Preferred Experience Previous experience as a Lead, Senior, or Supervisor-level veterinary technician.RVT/CVT/LVT
