At LOVE Animal Hospital, our goal is to provide compassionate veterinary care to Huntington Beach and the surrounding communities by veterinary professionals who love what they do and love the patients they care for as if they were their own. Our brand-new hospital is a general practice and urgent care, created to make the client experience seamless, keep patient care the priority, and provide the most innovative and modern veterinary medicine. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Specialty Veterinary Technician to join our swing shift team and work alongside our veterinarians and board-certified specialists. This role is ideal for a dedicated veterinary technician with a strong interest in advanced diagnostics, complex cases, specialty medicine, and client education. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys the variety and higher-acuity cases that come with an afternoon/evening shift in a busy general practice and urgent care hospital. Key Responsibilities Assist in specialized procedures and surgeries in collaboration with veterinary specialists. Prepare and maintain surgical equipment and instruments for complex procedures. Monitor anesthesia and recovery for specialty patients, including patients requiring advanced anesthetic support. Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as directed by veterinarians. Provide high-quality patient care in the ICU, specialty wards, and during urgent and emergency visits. Perform and assist with advanced diagnostic testing, including blood work, radiographs, ultrasound, and other diagnostic procedures. Assist with stabilization and treatment of critical and emergent patients. Educate clients regarding treatment plans, procedures, medications, and at-home care. Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and ensure patient confidentiality. Communicate effectively with doctors, specialists, technicians, and client service teams throughout the patient's care. Mentor and train junior staff and veterinary technicians as needed. Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment and specialty environment. Serve as an experienced resource for the team during the swing shift, helping support patient care and workflow during the afternoon and evening hours. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited veterinary technician program. Certification as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT) preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital, with at least 3 years of experience in a specialty setting such as critical care, surgery, cardiology, oncology, internal medicine, or emergency/urgent care. Advanced knowledge of anesthesia, emergency/critical care, and specialized diagnostic equipment. Ability to confidently manage complex and critically ill patients. Strong understanding of advanced patient monitoring, medication administration, and treatment protocols. Excellent communication and client education skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while also functioning as an integral member of a collaborative team. Ability to remain calm, organized, and compassionate in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Compassionate, patient-focused attitude. Ability and willingness to work a consistent swing shift schedule, including afternoons/evenings and applicable weekends, as scheduled. Preferred Experience Experience with specialized equipment such as: Anesthetic ventilators Endoscopy equipment Advanced patient monitoring equipment Specialty diagnostic equipment Experience with specialized protocols, including chemotherapy handling and administration. Experience working with critical care, emergency, or specialty patients. Additional certifications or continuing education in a specialty area. Previous experience serving as a senior or lead technician and mentoring other team members. Why Join LOVE?
