Job Description
Our Mission At the Blue Water Area Humane Society, we believe every animal deserves a safe, loving home and the best possible care while they wait for it. Our team works tirelessly to provide compassionate medical treatment, rehabilitation, and enrichment for animals in need. Whether it's a scared kitten, an injured stray, or a senior dog needing extra TLC, we treat each animal as if they were our own. The Impact You'll Make As our Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), you'll be the heartbeat of our shelter's medical operations. You'll ensure that every animal received timely, high-quality care, helping them heal, thrive, and find their forever families. Your work will directly reduce suffering, improve adoption outcomes, and give vulnerable animals a second chance at life. What You'll Do Develop a working relationship with local veterinary clinics Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments according to established protocol Perform diagnostic tests such as fecals, heartworm tests, FIV/FeLV testa, and blood draws Monitor animals pre- and post surgery, ensuring comfort and safety Maintain accurate medical records in our shelter management system Educate adopters and foster families on post-adoption medical care Be certified in Euthanasia by Injection (EBI) or be willing to become certified Support intake exams for new arrivals, identifying urgent medical needs What You'll Bring Licensed or certified Veterinary Technician (or eligibility to obtain certification in our state) 3-years experience in a shelter, clinic, or emergency veterinary setting preferred or experience with shelter medicine Strong animal handling skills, including with fearful or stressed animals Ability to work in a fast-paced, emotionally rewarding (and sometime challenging) environment Compassion, patience, and a commitment to animal welfare. Be Fear Free certified or have certificate within four (4) months Comfort with shelter software and basic medical equiment Why You'll Love It Here Part-Time Position Work with a mission-driven team that celebrates every adoption and recovery Competitive Pay ($22-$25 per hour).
