This position is responsible for performing general physical examinations and medical procedures of animals admitted to the animal shelter. Employees are expected to perform medical procedures of varying complexity such as identifying and treating animal illness, drug dosing, administering medications, performing and interpreting examinations and diagnostic testing as well as maintaining medical records for shelter animals. Standard operating procedures are in place which will be followed regarding the above examinations and treatments.Key Responsibilities:
Perform daily health checks on dogs, cats, and other shelter animals Identify and report signs of illness, injury, or behavioral concerns Assist with basic medical care (medication administration, treatments, supportive care) Support veterinary staff with exams, treatments, and procedures Safely handle and restrain animals during medical care Monitor animals' appetite, behavior, and overall condition Maintain accurate medical records in shelter systems Follow strict sanitation, cleaning, and disease-control protocols Assist with intake, triage, and movement of animals throughout the shelter Prepare and clean treatment areas and equipment Support adoption and foster readiness by ensuring animals are clean and healthy Work closely with veterinary and animal care teams in a fast-paced environmentRequired Qualifications:
Previous experience in animal shelters, veterinary clinics, or kennels Basic knowledge of animal health and disease recognition Experience administering medications or assisting with medical care Passion for working with animals and supporting a high-volume surgical clinic Ability to safely handle animals of all sizes and temperaments Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality and positive attitude to work independently or in a team Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Physical ability to bend, kneel, lift, and perform repetitive movements Ability to work in areas with exposure to various animal-related conditions (odors, noise, cleaning agents) Core Competencies Animal Health & Wellness, Animal Handling & Restraint, Medication Administration, Basic Medical Care, Disease Recognition, Health Monitoring, Veterinary Procedure Support, Diagnostic Testing Assistance, Medical Record Keeping, Sanitation & Disease Control, Intake & Triage Support, Attention to Detail, Safety Awareness, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Organization & Time Management, Multitasking, Team Collaboration, Communication, Reliability, Adaptability, Compassion, Professionalism.Application Process:
