Ice Cream Shop Manager

The Shop Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of an Island Cool Ice Cream shop. This includes delivering an exceptional guest experience, developing staff, maintaining product and cleanliness standards, and ensuring smooth, efficient operations. Managers are hands-on leaders who coach, support, and elevate their teams — not clipboard supervisors. They set the tone for the shop and ensure Island Cool's values show up in everyshift. •Key Responsibilities 1.

Model Island Cool's values: Joy, Pride, Support Build a positive, inclusive, high-energy shop culture Coach staff in real time with clarity and kindness Reinforce expectations consistently and fairly Address performance issues early and constructively Demonstrate exceptional reliability, including a strong willingness to cover shifts when needed and maintaining a very low frequency of call-outs. Model the attendance and dependability standards expected of the entire team. Participate in an alternating on-call rotation with the Assistant Manager to ensure all uncovered call-outs are covered. 2. Staff Development & Scheduling Hire and train new staff and reinforce standards with existing staff Develop Senior Scoopers and Assistant Managers Build weekly schedules that balance labor cost, staff availability, and the customer experience Ensure minors' hour restrictions are followed Maintain a healthy staffing mix (Jr Scooper → Scooper → Senior Scooper → AM) Ensure all called-out shifts are covered — either by staff or, if necessary, by stepping in personally or coordinating with Assistant Managers. 3. Operations & Standards Ensure the shop is clean, organized, and guest-ready at all times Maintain product quality, portioning, and presentation Oversee opening/closing procedures Ensure accurate register operations Maintain equipment and coordinate repairs when needed 4. Inventory & Ordering Oversee inventory counts Place accurate, timely orders Maintain par levels and prevent stockouts Track waste and identify opportunities to reduce it 5. Guest Experience Ensure every guest receives warm, friendly, efficient service Handle guest issues calmly and professionally Maintain pace and flow during busy periods Support staff in delivering a consistent, joyful experience 6. Performance & Reporting Monitor labor as a % of sales, sales trends, and product usage Communicate issues and insights to ownership Support rollout of new systems (loyalty, inventory, scheduling, etc.) Maintain compliance with health, safety, and labor regulations •

Qualifications Required:

Experience in food service, retail, or hospitality Strong communication and people-leadership skills Ability to coach, motivate, and hold staff accountable High reliability and strong work ethic Ability to work evenings, weekends, and peak seasons Calm under pressure; solutions-oriented

Preferred:

Experience managing a small team Experience with scheduling, inventory, or training Familiarity with high-volume service environments •Island Cool managers are the heartbeat of each shop. Pay:

$22.50 - $24.00 per hour
