CLASS DEFINITION

This class is accountable for independently performing advanced level professional practice of aiding in obtaining compliance with court ordered family support as well as providing additional administrative, leadership, and training support.

GUIDELINES FOR CLASS USE

Positions allocated to this class are reserved for those specifically promoted or appointed to perform advanced levels of the practice of enforcing and administratively facilitating court ordered family support payments. Positions allocated to the class perform the full duties and responsibilities of a Support Enforcement Officer II, are distinguished by the fact that in 25% of their time they assist an Office Supervisor or a Supervising Support Enforcement Officer by performing specific administrative, leadership, and training functions associated with operating a Support Enforcement Services office.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Positions of the class work under the supervision of a Supervising Support Enforcement Officer or other employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Incumbents may lead/supervise lower-level employees as assigned and may provide insight and feedback on the performance of lower-level employees.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs the full duties of a Support Enforcement Officer II; Serves as the primary contact for the Bench on court related matters and issues; Represents SES on interagency workgroups or projects; Performs administrative oversight for financial functions associated with trust accounts and cash register systems; Serves as a mentor for new employees; Provides on-site training for new employees; Provides training on new child support policy, systems, and procedures for existing employees; Assists in the delegation and completion of office work assignments and in the oversight of office case load projects; Serves as the Support Enforcement Officer in charge during absences of supervisory staff; Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE. SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of child support enforcement services and procedures; significant knowledge of the automated child support systems, financial responsibilities, court rules and procedures, considerable interpersonal, leadership , negotiating, interviewing, crisis intervention, mediation and counseling skills; considerable oral and written communications skills; accounting and mathematical skills; ability to relate to diverse cultural and economic backgrounds; computer skills.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

General Experience:

A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience monitoring and ensuring compliance with court ordered family support cases at or above the level of Support Enforcement Officer II.

Substitutions Allowed:

A law degree may be substituted for one year of the General Experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Incumbents are required to have a valid Connecticut motor vehicle operator's license and a motor vehicle available for daily use.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be exposed to some degree of disagreeableness or threat from abusive or assaultive clients.
