Job Description

Position Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to perform routine work in assisting school children and pedestrians in

crossing a street or intersection while traveling to and from school; all other related work as required.

The Crossing Guard is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and

effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.

Supervision:

Supervision Scope:

Performs routine work of a repetitive nature requiring some judgment and

discretion in dealing with children while acting in accordance with established policies, procedures,

and guidelines. Employee is expected to exercise considerable caution and safety while supervising

the safety of children.

Supervision Received:

Works independently under the general supervision and direction of the Easton

Public Schools. Employee refers all questionable cases to supervisor.

Supervision Given:

None.

Job Environment:

Work is performed outdoors under variable weather conditions including extremes of hot and cold

temperatures, snow, sleet, and rain. Employee is exposed to moderate traffic noise and the hazards

associated with stopping/directing traffic and assisting children in crossing roads. Wears crossing

guard uniform.

Utilizes a hand held stop sign while performing duties. Employee is required to wear appropriate

uniform

Makes constant contacts with children and the public.

Errors could result in possible injury or loss of life, danger to public safety, confusion, and have

possible legal ramifications.

Essential Functions:

Stops traffic to allow children and pedestrians to cross busy street intersections.

Maintains awareness of present or potential traffic hazards in area surrounding assigned crossings.

Promptly informs supervisor of any hazards and possible remedial steps to be taken.

Follows all standard safety requirements of a crossing guard as established by the Town of Easton.

Attends any necessary training programs.

Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
