Responsibilities What You'll Do:
Conducts field inspections, sampling activities, and compliance evaluations for food service establishments and other regulated facilities. Reviews inspection records, maintenance logs, wastewater discharge data, spill incidents, and compliance documentation. Assists with enforcement actions, notices of violation, corrective action plans, and regulatory reporting. Coordinates compliance activities with laboratory staff, wastewater operations personnel, field crews, and external customers. Maintains accurate inspection records, databases, and compliance tracking systems. Advises businesses and internal stakeholders on environmental compliance requirements, grease management practices, pollution prevention measures, and wastewater regulations. Assists with implementation of local, state, and federal environmental programs, including NPDES permit compliance requirements. Supports laboratory coordination activities related to sample receiving, chain-of-custody procedures, and analytical scheduling. Assists with hazardous material handling, laboratory waste management, and regulatory compliance for chemical storage and disposal activities. Assists with Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) inspections, sampling activities, permit compliance, and industrial user coordination as program responsibilities expand. Exercises independent judgment in planning inspections, interpreting environmental regulations, coordinating technical activities, and resolving compliance issues. Prepares reports, correspondence, and documentation related to inspections, compliance activities, and regulatory requirements. Communicates with businesses, regulatory agencies, contractors, and City staff regarding compliance issues and corrective actions. Monitors compliance activities to ensure adherence to environmental regulations, City policies, and established environmental standards. Performs related duties as assigned in support of environmental compliance, wastewater, laboratory, and regulatory programs. Qualifications
REQUIRES
An accredited Bachelor's degree in an environmentally related field, such as environmental science and related physical and life sciences, environmental engineering and related engineering specializations, environmental law and related legal specializations or environmental studies and related management, environmental planning and related urban planning specializations, environmental education, environmental policy, sustainability, and public administration specializations; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess of a valid state-issued drivers license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Preference given to candidates with Experience with FOG compliance programs, wastewater systems, or environmental field inspections. Familiarity with Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) requirements and wastewater regulations. Knowledge of EPA pretreatment standards, NPDES permits, and environmental compliance practices. Experience conducting inspections, investigations, sampling, and technical reporting. Strong communication, documentation, and regulatory interpretation skills. GIS, database management, or environmental compliance software experience is desirable.
