Under executive direction, performs highly responsible administrative and supervisory work involving the overall management and supervision of the Fire Department. Employee is responsible for establishing and implementing departmental goals and objectives, managing and coordinating all administrative aspects of the department, and supervising and directing departmental personnel to achieve effective operational organization, and to prevent and minimize injury and/or the loss of life and property in emergency and fire situations. In addition, employee has considerable responsibility in working with other municipal and county governments in developing and monitoring inter-local agreements, grants, and emergency management plans. Employee works in accordance with departmental directives and is expected to exercise considerable independence and initiative. Because it is difficult if not impossible to present a finite list of every possible function to be performed by employee, the City of Wilton Manors reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to modify and update this job description and to ask employee to perform tasks beyond the duties presented herein. Directs, plans, organizes, and implements activities and programs in the Fire Department; directs all staff and training procedures to achieve effective operational organization, and to prevent and minimize injury and/or the loss of life and property in emergency and fire situations. Directs a staff of professional, technical, and support employees engaged in all phases of the operations and administration of fire prevention, fire inspection, and fire activities/programs for the City. Plans and directs the development and implementation of service/supply programs to maximize the lifetime of equipment and facilities acquisitions; evaluates the need for purchase of new apparatus and supplies. Directs the inspection of buildings and other properties for fire hazards and the enforcement of fire prevention ordinances and laws. Develops, proposes, and administers departmental budget consistent with the City's goals and objectives, ensuring compliance with financial management policies and procedures of the City. Advises the City Manager regarding public safety issues; attends staff, task force, and special meetings as part of City management team. Evaluates, plans, and implements fire protection training needs. Promotes fire protection and communications through publications, reports, and media to increase public awareness. Directs records maintenance of Fire Department in accordance with modern fire practices. Performs related work as necessary. Minimum Qualifications F-103.3 Certification of Fire Marshal/Fire Code Official. The Fire Marshal/Fire Code Official shall be certified by BORA as a Fire Code Official, be a certified Firefighter as defined by 69A-37 as refereed to collectively (parts 1 and 2) as the "Minimum Standards Course", be a State certified Fire Inspector, and shall meet one or more of the following qualifications:

F-103.3.1

An Engineer and/or a Degree in Fire Science and/or a Degree in Fire Prevention and shall have been employed as a County or City Fire Inspector for three (3) years within the State of Florida and shall possess a Broward County Certification.

F-103.3.2 A

County or City Fire Plans Examiner with at least five (5) years of experience within the State of Florida and shall possess a Broward County Certification.

F-103.3.3

Ten (10) years' experience as a Fire Inspector, employed in a County or City within the State of Florida with at least five (5) years of experience within the jurisdiction of the FFPC and be a Broward County Certified Fire Inspector.

F-103.3.4

Have been fulfilling the duties of a Fire Marshal/Fire Code Official with five (5) years continuous service as such within a County or City in the State of Florida and shall possess a Broward County Certification.

F-103.3.5

Possesses a certification issued by the State Fire Marshal as a Fire Code Manager/Administrator in accordance with

NFPA 1037

with a total of six (6) years' experience with a County or City as a fire plans examiner and inspector in Florida. and shall possess a Broward County Certification.

Three (3) years' experience as a Broward County Certified Plans Examiner and nationally certified as an NFPA Certified Fire Inspector 1 (CFI-1), NFPA Certified Fire Plans Examiner (CFPE) and NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS).
