POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Patrol Enforcement Section is currently accepting applications from sworn personnel who are interested in the position of Bike Unit Officer . The purpose of this specialty opening is to establish an eligibility list for future placement. Officers interested in the position must have a minimum of two years of experience as a sworn police officer (at least one with the Chandler Police Department). Duties associated with the assignment include, but are not limited to, targeting street level crimes, directed enforcement, special events, and citizen education. This position requires working on community projects and working closely with our downtown businesses. Officers interested in the position should possess above average organizational skills, time management skills, need limited supervision, have a strong team mentality, and be self-motivated. Officers should also have good investigative skills and be proficient in search and seizure laws . Officers should consider the physical demands of riding a bicycle to perform their duties along with being able to obtain an International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) or similar certification. The Bike Unit Officer will work a 4-10 schedule, and their hours of operation will be a variable swing shift schedule (1400-0000 or 1630-0230). The Bike Unit Officer may be required to flex hours for special events, or other details. Therefore, schedule flexibility is a requirement. Applicants selected for this position will waive MOU Article 4, Section 4-1.C, as it relates to change of work schedule. The position carries non-exempt status with overtime pay as required and offers a 5% specialty pay. The testing process will consist of a bicycle physical fitness test as well as an oral board. Applications and résumés will also be reviewed as part of the testing process. An eligibility list will be established and will be effective for one year. If the testing process takes place outside the employee's normal work hours, then employees may coordinate with immediate supervisors to flex time to attend their interview/test. Overtime or comp time must be pre-approved and will only be allowed under exceptional circumstances.
