Job Description

The City of Abilene Kansas is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Under the supervision of a Patrol Sergeant, the Police Officer protects the life and property of citizens within the City of Abilene by enforcing all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. The Police Officer performs preventative patrol duties, enforces traffic laws, investigates crimes and accidents, and provides citizen assistance. Non-certified applicants starting wage is $22.81 to $31.94/hr. Certified applicants/lateral transfer starting wage based upon experience, education and training is $25.10 to $35.14/hr. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 21 years of age, of good moral character, have a valid driver's license, and possess a high school diploma or GED. Some college credit or law enforcement certification preferred. Selected applicants will be invited to participate in written testing and a panel interview. Successful candidates must pass a thorough background investigation, physical ability testing, psychological exam, and must possess excellent communication and public relation skills as well as problem solving ability.
