Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Contract Staff Attorney to join our legal team. Must have criminal law experience and a history of trial work in Virginia courts. Occasional court appearances required, but most work can be done remotely. Your expertise will help safeguard the organization's interests while facilitating smooth legal operations. This could become a more permanent position. Responsibilities Facilitate communication with clients and client families. Occasional jail visits may be required. Conduct thorough legal research to support case preparation and legal analysis. Assist with procedural law compliance, court filings, and motion preparation to ensure adherence to jurisdictional requirements. Manage legal case files efficiently using case management software while maintaining meticulous documentation of all legal activities. Support negotiations with clients and prosecutors to achieve favorable outcomes while upholding the organization's legal standards. Communicate clearly with clients regarding case status updates, legal options, and procedural guidance to foster trust and transparency. Occasional court appearances for motions. Requirements Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with active bar membership in Virginia. Proven experience in legal research, litigation support, and case management. Strong knowledge of procedural laws and familiarity with motions and trial preparation processes. Exceptional writing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise legal documents and motions. Ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail under tight deadlines. Effective communication skills for client interaction and communicating with opposing counsel and court personnel.
Pay:
$50.00 - $100.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 15.0 per week

Criminal defense law: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
Virginia Bar License (Required)
