Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to provides prosecution of serious criminal cases for Dorchester County, including trial preparation, plea agreements, hearings, court filings and jury trials; prepares necessary reports; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens. This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assess, negotiate, and resolve cases in the office. Resolve cases in court. Advises, trains, and discuss issues/solutions with other lawyers. Correspond with law enforcement and opposing counsel. Assist law enforcement as necessary. Review and maintain case files and discovery. Draft motions and legal filings. Extend plea offers. Prosecute General Session matters. Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school. South Carolina Bar Admission and Certification Eight years of criminal law or related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications, Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. South Carolina Bar Admission and Certification Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Work is performed?dealing with crisis situations that require making major decisions involving people, resources, and property. Dorchester?

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status.
