Position Summary:

The DOT Compliance & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring company compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, federal and state safety requirements, and company safety policies. This position oversees driver and vehicle compliance, maintains required documentation and records, conducts safety training and audits, and works to identify and reduce workplace and transportation-related risks.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state and federal safety regulations. Manage and maintain DOT compliance records, including driver qualification files, medical certifications, motor vehicle records, drug and alcohol testing, and required documentation. Conduct regular audits of driver qualification files, vehicle records, inspection reports, and safety documentation. Check company database (Samsara) to ensure company vehicles are properly inspected, maintained, and compliant with applicable safety regulations. Track vehicle inspections, registrations, permits, repairs, and required certifications. Investigate accidents, incidents, and safety violations and maintain accurate documentation. Assist with workers' compensation and insurance claims related to workplace or vehicle incidents. Develop, implement, and communicate safety policies and procedures. Monitor workplace conditions and identify potential hazards or areas of non-compliance. Stay current on changes to DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other applicable regulations. Work with management to develop corrective action plans and improve overall safety performance. Maintain confidentiality of employee, medical, drug-testing, and compliance-related information. Support a culture of accountability, safety, and regulatory compliance throughout the organization.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Valid driver's license. DOT Compliance or Safety Certification required Previous experience in DOT compliance, transportation safety, fleet operations, or a related field. Working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable state regulations. Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple compliance requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to conduct investigations, audits, and safety inspections. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based recordkeeping systems. Ability to take initiative, work independently, and be a part of a team

Preferred:

CDL Experience with FMCSA systems and compliance requirements and/or certifications associated. Experience with ELD systems and driver qualification file management and/or certifications associated. Experience in trucking, fleet management, automotive, diesel, or field-service operations. OSHA safety training or certification. Familiarity with DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations. Law enforcement.

Physical & Work Requirements:

Ability to conduct inspections in shop, yard, and vehicle environments. Ability to occasionally travel between jobsites Ability to safely navigate areas where vehicles, equipment, and heavy machinery are in operation. Must be able to maintain a high level of professionalism when addressing safety and compliance concerns.
