You will be responsible for enforcing MSHA Part 46 regulations , managing hazard training, and maintaining a proactive safety culture across dredging, processing, and shipping operations. The ideal candidate has deep technical knowledge of surface mining hazards, heavy equipment, and aquatic dredging safety. Key Responsibilities MSHA Part 46
Management:
Own the site's MSHA training plan, maintain up-to-date 5000-23 forms, conduct mandatory task training for all plant and dredge operators.
Inspection Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact for MSHA inspectors during site audits, managing close-out conferences and correcting any identified items swiftly.
Full Process Site Audits:
Conduct daily safety inspections covering marine dredge vessels, pipelines, high-pressure washing plants, screening/hydrocyclone equipment, massive conveyor systems, and bulk-loading infrastructure.
Incident Investigation & Reporting:
Lead comprehensive root-cause analysis for any plant equipment failures, near-misses, or injuries, ensuring immediate implementation of preventative corrective measures.
Industrial Health & Silica Compliance:
Develop and monitor engineering controls, PPE programs, and industrial hygiene testing regimes specifically addressing respirable crystalline silica dust exposure . Lockout/Tagout/Tryout (LOTOTO): Enforce strict energy isolation programs for mechanical maintenance on high-voltage processing equipment, pumps, and crushers.
Dredging & Plant Safety:
Oversee specialized safety protocols for marine/dredging operations, conveyors, high-voltage screening plants, and heavy commercial truck traffic.
Required Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of dedicated industrial safety experience, with at least 2 years explicitly in an MSHA-regulated surface mining, sand/gravel, or aggregate environment.
MSHA Approved Instructor:
Certified by MSHA to conduct and sign off on Part 46 training internally.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Expert-level mastery of MSHA Part 46 rules, recordkeeping systems, and compliance documentation.
Physical Capability:
Ability to safely navigate rough terrain, climb conveyor catwalks, work around water/dredges, and work outdoors in varying Louisiana weather conditions.
Communication:
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively coach field laborers and confidently present data to executive leadership.
Preferred Qualifications Professional Credentials:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation, or OSHA 30-Hour Construction/General Industry.
Industry Background:
Direct experience with hydraulic sand dredging, wash plants, and heavy material-handling conveyors.
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
