JOB SUMMARY

As DOT/Safety Manager, the primary roles and responsibilities are to develop, implement, and maintain L2H Group LLC's transportation safety and regulatory compliance programs. This position provides safety oversight for company drivers, owner-operators, shop personnel, coordinator personnel, and other employees whose work affects commercial motor vehicle operations. The DOT/Safety Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining safety policies, procedures, and training programs that support safe, compliant, and efficient operations. The DOT/Safety Manager monitors compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state transportation safety requirements; reviews electronic logging device information; investigates incidents; and supports corrective action. This position is also responsible for conducting driver coaching related to harsh driving events identified through the company's electronic logging device system. Insurance correspondence and claims-related communication will be conducted in collaboration with the leadership team. The position requires regular communication with drivers, management, insurance representatives, regulatory agencies, and service providers, as well as travel to terminals, yards, customer locations, and active job sites as needed. To succeed in this position, the DOT/Safety Manager must have a strong understanding of transportation safety and compliance requirements, excellent communication and investigative skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with management and field personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develop, implement, and maintain transportation safety, DOT compliance, and workplace safety policies and procedures. Provide safety oversight for shop personnel and coordinator personnel, including establishing expectations, communicating applicable policies, and following up on identified safety concerns. Monitor compliance with applicable hours-of-service requirements by reviewing electronic logging device records, identifying potential violations, following up on exceptions, and coordinating corrective action and training. Conduct driver coaching for harsh driving events identified through the company's electronic logging device system, document the coaching provided, and recommend additional training or corrective action when appropriate. Coordinate random, post-accident, reasonable-suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in accordance with applicable DOT requirements. Manage required driver and company records, reports, certifications, renewals, and compliance documentation so that records remain accurate, current, and readily available for review. Conduct periodic audits of vehicle inspection records, hours-of-service records, accident records, and other safety documentation. Coordinate preparation for and response to regulatory reviews, audits, investigations, inspections, and information requests from the Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, state agencies, and other authorities. Establish and maintain driver orientation, onboarding, refresher training, defensive-driving training, and other safety education programs. Conduct or coordinate regular safety meetings and communications addressing safe driving practices, vehicle inspections, load securement, distracted driving, fatigue management, personal protective equipment, and incident prevention. Investigate accidents, injuries, near misses, cargo or property damage, roadside inspection violations, and other incidents; document findings; perform root-cause analysis; and recommend corrective and preventive actions. Communicate with insurance carriers, brokers, claims representatives, and other insurance contacts regarding workers' compensation, automobile liability, property damage, and other incident-related claims in collaboration with the leadership team. Support the claims process by gathering incident reports, photographs, statements, records, and other documentation, while maintaining confidentiality and timely communication with the leadership team and insurance contacts. Coordinate with the Fleet Manager regarding vehicle inspection, repair, maintenance, and out-of-service issues that may affect safety or regulatory compliance. Ensure that Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) are completed as required, review DVIRs for deficiencies or recurring concerns, and coordinate follow-up with the appropriate personnel. Work with dispatch and operations personnel to promote safe trip planning, appropriate scheduling, fatigue prevention, and compliance with driver and vehicle requirements. Provide management with regular safety reports, compliance updates, trend analyses, and recommendations for reducing risk and improving performance. Maintain professional working relationships with drivers, owner-operators, employees, customers, vendors, insurance representatives, and regulatory officials. Protect confidential employee, medical, testing, accident, claim, and compliance information. Perform other duties related to transportation safety and regulatory compliance as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required; an associate or bachelor's degree in safety, transportation, business, or a related field is preferred. Five or more years of experience in transportation safety, DOT compliance, fleet operations, or a related field; experience with a trucking or commercial motor carrier is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state transportation safety requirements. Experience reviewing electronic logging device records and hours-of-service compliance information. Strong investigation, documentation, problem-solving, and follow-through skills. Ability to communicate safety expectations clearly and professionally with drivers, management, shop personnel, coordinator personnel, and field personnel. Ability to analyze safety data, identify trends, and present practical recommendations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic recordkeeping systems, and safety or fleet-management software. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced operating environment. Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly to terminals, yards, customer locations, and job sites.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required. Minimum of five years of experience in transportation safety, DOT compliance, fleet operations, or a related field. Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving history. Relevant safety or transportation certifications are preferred. ATTENDANCEThis is a full-time position. Flexible scheduling may be required based on business and operational needs.

THIS POSITION ALSO REQUIRES

Ability to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to travel as needed to terminals, yards, customer locations, and active job sites. Ability to work in varying weather, traffic, industrial, and operational conditions. Ability to access and inspect trucks, trailers, yards, terminals, and active job sites; climb steps or vehicle access points; bend, reach, and maneuver around equipment. Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations. Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to use required personal protective equipment when entering designated work areas.

Pay:

$70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
