Director of Safety Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington (ABC) is a merit shop construction trade association representing more than 330 contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners throughout Western Washington. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Safety to lead and advance safety initiatives that support our members and strengthen safety performance across the construction industry. This position serves as a trusted advisor to member companies, promotes a culture of safety excellence, and helps deliver valuable safety resources, training, and support. Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Leadership & Member Engagement Develop, implement, and oversee safety programs, initiatives, and services that support ABC members. Serve as a primary safety resource for member companies, providing guidance on regulatory compliance, industry best practices, and risk management strategies. Build and maintain strong relationships with member companies, industry stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and strategic partners. Promote a culture of safety excellence through education, engagement, and collaboration. Compliance & Technical Support Provide information and guidance regarding safety regulations and requirements from agencies including DOSH, OSHA, EPA, and DOT. Assist members in understanding and addressing compliance challenges. Stay current on regulatory changes, emerging industry trends, and best practices affecting the construction industry. Program Development Analyze safety data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and measure program effectiveness. Develop recommendations and strategies that help members achieve safety goals and reduce incidents. Support the development and delivery of safety resources, training programs, and educational initiatives. Industry Representation Represent ABC at industry conferences, safety forums, committee meetings, and events. Facilitate safety-related meetings, presentations, and member discussions. Promote ABC's safety programs and services throughout the construction community. Qualifications Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or equivalent safety credential preferred. First Aid/CPR Instructor Certification, or the ability to obtain certification. Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations, compliance requirements, and industry best practices. Excellent customer service skills and a demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with members and stakeholders. Experience developing and delivering safety training, presentations, and educational programs. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and utilize association management/database systems. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities. Preferred Experience Experience working in commercial construction, contractor safety, or construction-related industries. Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and conducting safety audits or assessments. Experience presenting to groups, facilitating committees, or leading training programs.
