Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, to ensure safe and efficient transportation for passengers, including children, seniors, and individuals with mobility challenges. Your expertise in traffic laws, safety regulations, and customer service will help create a positive travel experience while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism. Duties Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance and provide support to individuals with mobility needs, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify mechanical issues, verify safety equipment functionality, and ensure compliance with vehicle codes Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols such as CPR if necessary Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective English language skills; utilize multilingual abilities when applicable to assist diverse passenger groups Enforce student discipline policies and behavior management techniques to promote a safe environment onboard school buses or transit vehicles Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected delays by adjusting routes or schedules while keeping passengers informed Complete detailed reports on vehicle condition, passenger incidents, or safety concerns; document daily activities accurately using writing skills Adhere strictly to state and local commercial driving laws as well as transportation safety regulations governing passenger transport Experience Previous experience driving commercial vehicles such as school buses or transit buses is highly preferred Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, heavy lifting techniques, and emergency response procedures for transportation is essential Experience working with children or senior populations enhances your ability to manage diverse passenger needs effectively Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems helps in conducting routine inspections and minor troubleshooting Strong communication skills in English are required; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management strategies is advantageous Demonstrated ability to respond promptly to traffic changes and maintain safety under pressure is vital for success in this role
Pay:
$25.00 - $32.00 per hour
