A Safety Specialist works with safety specialists to inspect and test workplace environments and equipment and develop workplace safety programs. May specialize in product and equipment safety, and work to identify and correct safety hazards before they affect a customer or end user.

Position Summary:
GIS is seeking a dedicated Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Technician to support our utility-scale solar construction projects. The HSE Technician plays a critical role in promoting a proactive safety culture by ensuring compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and client safety requirements. This individual will work closely with field supervision and craft personnel to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and help maintain a safe and environmentally responsible work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct daily safety inspections and field observations throughout the project site. Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client-specific HSE requirements. Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), risk assessments, and pre-task planning reviews. Assist with incident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations. Document findings and recommend corrective and preventive actions. Deliver new hire safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training. Verify proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Monitor compliance with fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout (LOTO), excavation, electrical safety, and other safety programs. Conduct routine audits of work areas, equipment, and subcontractor activities. Assist with environmental compliance, including erosion control, stormwater protection, spill prevention, and waste management. Maintain accurate HSE documentation, inspection reports, training records, permits, and regulatory logs. Track corrective actions to ensure timely resolution of identified hazards. Support emergency response planning, drills, and site preparedness. Promote a positive safety culture by coaching employees and reinforcing safe work practices. Communicate safety concerns and recommendations to project management. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. 2+ years of safety experience in construction, industrial, utility, renewable energy, or heavy civil environments. Working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety regulations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to identify hazards and recommend practical corrective actions. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to maintain detailed documentation and reports. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to travel as required.
