Job Description
Citadel Electric Group is looking for a Safety Specialist to join our Safety team and support our electrical construction operations throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. This is a field-focused position — not a desk job and not a "safety police" role. The Safety Specialist will serve as a visible, trusted safety resource for our electricians, foremen, superintendents, and project managers. You'll spend significant time in the field identifying hazards, helping solve problems, coaching employees, and working with project leadership to prevent incidents and continuously improve how we operate. The position may be based at Citadel's Oak Grove headquarters or assigned to a major project in De Soto, Overland Park, or Grandview , depending on project needs and candidate location. What You'll Do Maintain a strong, visible presence on active construction projects. Build productive relationships with electricians, foremen, superintendents, and project managers. Conduct jobsite safety inspections, observations, and audits. Identify hazards and work with field leadership to implement practical corrective actions. Participate in pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and toolbox talks. Conduct or coordinate new-hire safety orientations and employee training. Assist with site-specific safety plans and required safety documentation. Maintain training, inspection, permit, and regulatory records. Participate in incident, near-miss, and property-damage investigations. Assist with root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions. Partner with field leadership and Citadel's Safety team to identify trends and improve performance. Provide safety support to other Citadel projects as needed. These duties track the actual role in your internal description, including inspections, JHAs, training, investigations, documentation, and collaboration with site leadership. What We're Looking For We're open to both experienced construction-safety professionals and high-potential early-career candidates. Associate or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience. Construction safety, construction operations, internship, or field experience preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to coach and influence field employees while maintaining productive working relationships. Sound judgment and a practical approach to problem solving. Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to meet background and site-access requirements for applicable project facilities. Preferred Qualifications 1-3 years of construction safety or field operations experience. Electrical construction experience. OSHA 30 certification. Familiarity with OSHA construction standards, NFPA 70E, and applicable ANSI standards. CHST, GSP, CSP, or other applicable safety credentials. Recent graduates and graduating seniors with relevant education, internships, or construction experience are encouraged to apply.
