GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Campus Safety Security Officer is charged with the responsibility of patrolling the campus during an assigned shift and attending to the needs of the facilities, staff and students. In addition, the officer is expected to address security, safety, enforcement, behavior and crime in and around the campus. The officer is expected to represent the University in a professional manner at all times.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Check all campus buildings to ensure they are secure. This check should be made several times during a shift. Schedules will be provided that indicate the use of spaces and when they should be secured. Patrols regularly the campus, including around the residence halls, to observe and respond to anything out of the ordinary. Files a daily written shift report with the Director of Campus Safety and completes incident reports as needed. Calls Central police (864-639-4020) and other emergency services as needed. Always carries the provided cell phone & radio during shift & responds to all calls. Supports the safety of functions on campus including, but not limited to sporting events, performances, student activities, conferences and classes. The security officer reports any problems to the Director of Campus Safety if immediate attention is needed. Reports maintenance issues with lights, doors, windows and the like to increase the security of the facilities and constituents. Coordinates the opening/closing of buildings approved for use, including ensuring buildings are accessible/empty, with lights on/off as required. Monitors cameras in the security building and reviews for unusual activity as warranted. Issues moving violation and parking citations as needed to enhance security and safety. Cooperates with reservation services to manage groups using campus facilities. Provides escort or assistance to any student or faculty/staff as requested. May assist in providing safety and security training and workshops as requested. Perform safety inspections/evaluations as required and assigned. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Safety.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma required. Experience in security preferred. Possesses interpersonal communication skills that demonstrate respect for all campus constituents. Availability to work assigned shift that may include nights and/or weekends Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining South Carolina Law Enforcement Division security officer certification. Demonstrates the ability to make well-informed decisions, solve problems, and manage confidential issues. Possesses a high degree of integrity and trustworthiness.

Physical/Environmental Requirements . Physical ability to work both indoors and outdoors. Must have a clean driving record and be able to drive. Must be able to walk up and down stairs/steps when locking or unlocking facilities. May require infrequent lifting of objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally items up to 50+ pounds.
