SMALL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC POSITION SUMMARY

The Small Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and safe operation of small engine-powered equipment used throughout the golf course, grounds, maintenance, and other club operations. This position ensures equipment is properly maintained and available for use by performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical problems, completing repairs, and maintaining accurate service records. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently while prioritizing multiple repair and maintenance needs.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair small engine-powered equipment, including but not limited to: Mowers and turf equipment String trimmers and edgers Blowers Chainsaws Utility vehicles and carts Pressure washers Generators Pumps Tillers and other grounds equipment Perform routine preventive maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations and established maintenance schedules. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and ignition system problems. Perform oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, spark plug replacement, belt replacement, and other routine service. Sharpen, adjust, replace, and maintain cutting blades and other equipment components. Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective parts. Inspect equipment before and after use to identify potential safety or mechanical concerns. Maintain equipment in clean, safe, and reliable operating condition. Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, repairs, parts used, and preventive maintenance. Maintain an organized inventory of commonly used repair parts, supplies, lubricants, and tools. Identify equipment requiring outside or specialized repair and coordinate repairs as directed. Assist with evaluating equipment condition and making recommendations regarding repair, replacement, or continued use. Assist with seasonal equipment preparation, including winterization and spring start-up. Maintain a clean and organized mechanical shop, work area, tools, and equipment. Properly use and maintain hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, and other shop equipment. Follow all manufacturer specifications and applicable safety procedures when performing repairs. Operate equipment as necessary to diagnose mechanical problems and verify completed repairs. Assist other maintenance and grounds personnel with equipment-related needs as requested. Respond to urgent equipment breakdowns in a timely manner to minimize disruption to club operations. Follow all applicable OSHA, safety, environmental, and club policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of small engines and mechanical systems. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems. Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs. Basic understanding of fuel systems, ignition systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and drive systems. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to prioritize repairs based on equipment needs and operational requirements. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees. Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and repair records. Ability to recognize unsafe equipment conditions and remove equipment from service when appropriate.

Education and Experience Required:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience repairing and maintaining small engines, mechanical equipment, or similar machinery. Ability to work safely and effectively in a physically demanding environment. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and work in awkward positions. Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, parts, and materials. Safely handle tools, equipment, lubricants, fuel, and other maintenance materials. Perform work requiring hand strength, dexterity, and coordination. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work around moving machinery, noise, dust, fumes, and other conditions commonly associated with mechanical repair and grounds maintenance.
